Q: In one place it says 940nm led and another it says 850nm, which is it? that's a significant difference as the 940nm doesn't give a viisble red glow.

it is 940nm, I purchased this light about a month ago. It works great for night vision out to about 100 yards with only the slightest of glow from the lens. If you need to see further than 100 yds go with the 850nm
