Comfort out of the box
I can't speak to longevity just yet but right out of the box these fit wonderfully compared to other boots I have worn. Upon putting them on they felt light, comfortable, and accurate to size(I am a 10.5). The first thing I did to test them out was to go on a short mile jog to see how they felt. I have rarely run with my previous boots because they can rub and cause blisters. Not only did these ones not chafe or hurt but it was a comfortable run. Not that I plan on doing much running in them and I am far from an avid runner. But just an FYI.Pros: comfy, good fit, breathable, light.Cons: The laces are a little short for my preference but are good quality. An easy fix to replace.

You just can't beat Bates (better than Nike, Reebok, and Belleville)
I tried 4 different pairs of Nike's, two Belleville's, and another Bates. This was by far the best shoe. It's light, it's flexible yet rugged, it breathes well, and it feels great. I'm a size 12W and it fits perfectly (I wear 12.5 running shoes). It is not water proof by any means, but it breathes well and dries quick. Just hiked a 14er (7 miles up Mt Bierstadt in Colorado) with these, and the felt great. I got hot spots as expected, so if you're hiking up a mountain, bring some mole skin.

manufactured poorley.
I wore the boots for 2 days before one of the eyelets popped out. I thought that was too soon so I had the boots replaced. I had the second pair for about a month when not one but two eyelets popped out. Amazon was kind enough to allow me to return the boots completely. The boots are very light and comfortable but do not last long. I wore these boots in my office setting, no type of field or exertional activities were done in them. Once again thanks to amazon for accepting my return request.

Comfortable, but not durable
A friend of mine got these a couple months ago and said they were very comfortable. I tried her pair on to test the fit for myself and immediately ordered a pair. These boots look great and fit comfortably. There has been no need to break them in. It's like walking on pillows but with good support.Edit: I've bought two pairs of these in the last year and a half. I have an issue where the eyelets keep busting off. While the leather has not torn where the laces pull, it doesn't look good or professional. The fabric on the inside of the heel has also been torn up considerably. The soles of the second pair started falling apart a few months into wearing them. I did not bring either pair home from my deployment. While still rather comfortable overall, I will not be buying these boots again.I will however note that my above mentioned friend's boots have not deteriorated like mine have. I do not know if I am that much rougher on my boots or if she just has better luck.

Good boots
Had these for over a month now. They fit well on my feet, feel great after wearing them all day. They appear to be well made but only time will tell. For now, I can recommend them.

Do NOT Buy
I’ve been a huge Bates fan during my 20+ year military career but the quality has gone way downhill. These boots are comfortable but all the eyelets have come out because the are only attached with plastic backings…cheap. I’ve had them too long to return them but not nearly long enough to make them worth the money. Would NOT recommend.

Loose fit cheap eyelets
In general these boots are OK but I wouldn't buy them again. I don't feel like I've gotten what I paid for. The fit is a little looser than previous Bates boots I've owned and the materials are cheaper. The eyelets are some kind of plastic vinyl which warp and pop apart when you pull the strings tight. These boots have seen light use. I went hiking a couple times wore them around the yard a few times and they've sat on the shoe rack for the last year plus. I've literally never seen this happen on any boot, including Bates boots which I started wearing in the service more than 30 years ago. Disgustingly cheap corner cut in quality.
