Mirroring and control of HDS works; wireless client won't work with encrypted network
I purchased this expecting to be able to connect it to my phone while in WiFi hotspot mode, hoping to both provide internet access to my HDS Gen2 Touch (for SonarChart Live) while at the same time viewing the display through the GoFree app. This won't work -- the HDS can reach the internet through my phone, but the GoFree app can't find the HDS. I guess you really do have to purchase a pair of these to support that configuration - ugh! (See bottom of the review too - to get this to connect to a hotspot of any sort, I had to turn all security off.)When using this in the WiFi Access Point for the GoFree app, I was expecting to be able to select different views of the sonar than were displaying on the HDS unit. That also won't work -- it just mirrors and controls the main unit. That's not as big of a downside, but worth knowing. In other words, you can't buy this and mount a tablet next to your HDS to give you a different view (it'd be awesome to be able to display StructureScan on the tablet and just do the chart and 2D on the HDS.)The biggest negative to me is that this wouldn't connect to any of my wireless networks with their security enabled (WPA2 with AES encryption); when I try to connect to a network with WPA2 enabled, I enter the password, hit connect, and it tells me it can't connect a few seconds later. I tried this on my home network (Ubiquiti AirOS access points), and also to two different Android hotspots (a Galaxy S7 edge with Marshmallow, and a Nexus 9 with Nougat) - same issue with all. It'll only successfully connect if I turn all security on the hotspot off. This is with the current firmware version (6.0) on the HDS Gen2 Touch, which is supposed to update the WiFi-1 if it needs newer firmware. I don't know if I had a faulty unit, or if this is just broken in the current firmware for this.I'm returning mine, as I was really looking for the Sonarchart Live functionality, and am not willing to run an open hotspot on the boat. I think I may look at going the route of a pair of small Mikrotik access points (one as a client to the hotspot, and one to provide tablet connectivity) with one of the Simrad Lowrance-to-RJ45 adapters; from what I read, this should work fine, it just won't be configurable through the HDS.

Does not wifi link other units just devices
First off I purchased this unit because I have three; yes three; hds units on my boat. Two hds 9 and one seven. I wanted a way to connect them all to ducer without running more ducers, since you can only Ethernet link one device from another I bought this after speaking with lowrance/navico. They informed me that if using hds gen 2 units you can wirelessly network all units; up to six devices; from the wifi and connect the additional fish finders to the network. Upon installing this is simply not the case. Now it's not the end of the world because it's not terribly expensive anyway and frankly I don't feel like fishing all the wires out.All in all; this units does what the unit is supposed to do; however you can NOT network other fish finders off of it only portable devices such as iPhones etc. which since my iPhone is 4 inches and I have a combined 25 inches of graph I really don't need to look at myPhone too.

Totally Frickin' Awesome
Installed this in my boat. I have an HDS 12 touch at mid boat but didn't want to by another fish finder for up front. So spent the $$ on this, installed it, did the update to the software (HDS unit) and presto this unit sends a WiFi signal to whatever I want. Provided you have the Lowrance App installed on your device. So now what do I do....run an iPad up front, and another at the stern (had a few extra of those around). It can fully control the HDS unit, including music (via sonic hub), side scan screens, weather module (Sirius XM weather), and everything else.Bottom line: This unit if freakin' great!

Highly recommended.
I was actually going to set up two stations, one on the bow and one at the control station. With this and my iPad, I only need one...easy to install, easy to set up, and the app is intuitive... My friends use their iPhones to watch the bottom and I use the iPad when I'm forward to control the HDS Touch. My only concern is that it is listed as not water proof. I need to find a way of protecting it from all the splashing from diving. I really enjoy using this.

Can't do both
works very good but only use as a access point or a MRD not both. So constantly have to switch back and forth or buy another if you want to connect to hotspot and use as wifi controller.
