Works well, worth whatever you end up paying for it!
Greetings from the Captain. Folks, sometimes a person is going to function a lot better in a cool environment, even if they toughed it out for years like me. When I first went to buy this in early July of 2016, it went for $399.99, if I recall correctly. I sent an email to ask someone if it looked like my research was correct and this was a good model. They replied later in the day, and after getting their approval, it turns out it was sold out when I went to buy it! Long story short, it turns out I was able to get it a couple of weeks later for $589.99, which is even higher(no pun intended) than it is now.How can I be so happy after paying almost $200/50% more? Well this thing works great! In reply to the review that said it fills up with water all the time, I've had it around a month now and it hasnt shut off due to filling up once yet. Granted I dont live in a humid climate, but I honestly dont expect this to fill up for a long, long time. If it actually did shut off every couple of hours like that one review said, I think a straight dehumidifier would be a wise investment. To refute another review, this indeed does have a timer on it. It does make the noise when turning on and off, so cooling the bedroom while you sleep may not be feasible for light sleepers. I may update later, but as of now I just get it as cool as I can in my bedroom and keep the door closed, and it helps me get to sleep and I'm generally fine until it's time to wake up.How is the noise level? When reading that portable ACs can be loud being they are entirely inside your home whereas the standard units are not, this one is actually more quiet than my 12,000 btu living room unit, even with the fan on high.In my relatively small bedroom, the other night this cooled it about 6 degrees in an hour, and that was with the door OPEN and the rest of the place hot. I may update this later with more data points for you with the door closed.I have read reviews on other units that say putting something over the hoses to insulate them(or the exhaust mainly) will help the room to cool more efficiently, as they DO give off heat. I have not tried it yet, but it makes sense. Also a not I am not sure if I saw in any reviews, if you set the exhaust panel vertically for a sideways sliding window, make sure the exhaust is on the TOP spot, or your cooling wont be as efficient. I am not sure I can say the 2 hose system is necessary, but from all I've read, it makes sense and sure is working well for me.Mine fit vertically in my window fine when it came to length, but didnt want to stay flush for some reason. I dont claim to be the most handy guy, so I did what seemed easiest after a bit of a struggle and used some tape to cover most of the edges, and that seems to have done the trick to keep it in place. It was in a spot where looks didn't matter so much, so I didn't mind the tape, and the bottom line was that things ended up working well with minimal extra effort after initial trouble keeping it flush, so I wanted to put that option out there in case it happens to someone else with any model.Folks, if my review was helpful at all and/or you appreciate the effort, I'd be grateful if you'd please click the button below that says so. Thanks, and stay cool my friends!**PS even though the hot season may be winding down not too long for now in some blessed places, it still may be a worthy investment, especially if these resellers lower their prices again, which I suspect they will at some point.

Don't buy it for the heater
A/C worked nicely, heater worked for a week and now won't warm more than 58 degrees.

Good a/c, but blue backlight never shuts off
The air conditioner gets my bedroom nice and chilly, within an hour. If I use a fan to help circulate, it can reasonably cool off my 1,100 sq. ft. Seattle apartment, down to 72-75 degrees when it's 90 outside, given enough time. It really isn't built for a place that large, but it works in Seattle. It's as quiet as possible... by far the most quiet air conditioner I've ever owned. Window kit was pretty easy to rig up. Hose is quite rigid, so be sure to budget extra hose length for wide corners.I only have a couple complaints. First, the screen on the front has a bright blue backlight and it never shuts off. For sleeping, I had to put tape over it. Next, there's no real directional control. Sure, the front vent opens so you can position it vertically a few degrees, and it has a side-to-side guide like in a car that you can point a few degrees.. but ultimately the blast of cold air just coming right out the front. You could rotate the whole unit to point elsewhere, but then you're going to pop out the hoses. The remote control just rectangular with some poorly labeled buttons, so it's tough to figure out what you're pushing in the dark. One thing that's hard to see from photos and diagrams... there are two hoses that need to go out to the window.I've never needed to drain mine, and it's been running solid for weeks. Also, it's on nice wheels, so that's helpful as it is relatively heavy.

Paid for a unit with heat, got the lessor model for the same price????????? WTH...
The A/C part works ok, not as good as the sharp portable I replaced, the big surprise is the heating, well there is none. I paid for the HPND14XHP BUT WAS SHIPPED THE HPND14XCP, which means it does not have heat....... I of course did not catch this until the fall when I needed the heater, so I contacted ZUI Trade there is nothing they are going to do about. So I paid for the better unit got shipped something else so I got ripped off....So go with Sharp, and stay away for ZUI TRADE INC......

Works well enough. I don't think I would buy ...
Works well enough. I don't think I would buy a portable unit again, though, as the design is clunky. It still has to be vented at a window and takes up room on the floor instead of in the window.

Used on our screened in porch very comfortable
Cools nice but needed to put drain hose on because it shut off without when the water build up

Works great, Window kit leaves something to be desired
Unit works well to cool my kitchen, dining room and living room. The only complaint I have is that the included window kit is not tall enough to seal on my small awning window. I had to fabricate a wooden panel and fit in the vent hose panel into it. Not a huge deal, just would like to have seen either more upward expansion options included or an expansion kit available for purchase.

0 for 2 - Not a good record
I bought two of these units and they start off quite but after a month of use they became very loud. Even my wife who doesn't mind some noise could not tolerate it. I took one unit apart and found it was a poor material used to assemble a fan that is badly out of balance. They also do not insulate the warm side so a portion of the cooling is wasted by the heat that is given off. Wish I could have bought something else that I could have used long term but I needed mobile units at the time.
