Favorite Red Sonja book by far.
A comic that fully expresses itself and is not afraid to be controversial. It is a modern classic in my opinion and though it is not the first appearance of Red Sonja it is the best entry point. For some reason the art on the inside looks better than the cover with rich bright colors where needed and excellent use of shading...Not the mention the superb action scenes.Sonja deserves a new modern movie and if they make it they should base it off of this book right here. Great for fans of fantasy and fans of Conan or Xena Warrior Princess. Though I like Red Sonja better than both of them.

Get to know who Red Sonja is
This is a great book to get you going on the story of Red Sonja. Even though you don't get any of the issues brought out by Marvel Comics, Dynamite does a great job on not only the tales of Red Sonja but also her beginning & how she become the Red Sonja of legend. This is definitely one that every Red Sonja fan will want & if you aren't one & read this you will become one of her fans.

Great place to start reading about the She-Devil with a Sword
Red Sonja has had multiple seriesover the years, but this is the one that gotme hooked on her. I am so glad that Dynamite has started releasing the series in Omnibus collections. He writing and art are superb. The creative teams on the series do the She-Devil with a Sword justice. If you want to get to know this firey warrior, this is a great place to start.

Possibly even better than CONAN!
I am a long-time fan of Conan (especially the old B&W Savage Sword of Conan, etc. stuff) and thought I'd finally pick this book up. It is way better than I would have expected. I loved the Kurt Busiek/Cary Nord Conan books, and this is right up there with them. I had googled some Mel Rubi artwork prior to buying this, because a lot of times, the artwork will make it or break it for me. I wasn't really impressed, but bought this anyway. But I have to say that Mel Rubi is the man. He's not super-detailed, but he really understands perception and anatomy. In fact, a lot of his cover art is better than some of the other high-caliber artists they had draw the variants. The story is great also. It ends well, but still leaves it wide open for the next chapter to come.I cannot recommend this book enough. If I had any faults with it, it would be that it was in paperback. It deserves a nice hardbound edition. Cramming all this into a paperback makes it a little cumbersome to read sometimes.

superb relaunch and great value for money
this is by far the best ongoing series i've read in a long time, not because it's thought provoking and deep or has excellent writing, but purely because it is the opposite. it is the opposite of anything that j. michael strazynski writes, (i find his writing to be long winded and boring).it's not indepth or deep or sentimental. it's just all out action with little to no expostion.the story is so simple and so effective - a woman gets violated in all facets of her life and so she goes out to get them with the blessing of a god, along the way though she can't stop getting them, long after the people that raped her and killed her family are dead, she keeps going on a killing spree of epic proportions. from start to finish it's just decapitations, amputations, skwerings, impalings, disembowelings, hacking and slashing. just pure unmitigated, unrelenting violence - just the way i like my comic book to be.it's also made believable by the fact that it's a statuesqe fiery red head doing all the killing. (i wouldn't believe a blonde or a brunette could fill the role.)adding to this is mel rubi's fantastic artwork, his sonja is both sexy and strong. a good artist does the majority of the work for the writer, it is through the pictures that the story is told and not the words (in a comic book at least).not to mention an incredible covers gallery from an all star line up of today's best artists.well worth the price you pay. i highly recommend it.

Liked it / didn't love it
This was okay. I understand what they were trying to do, but I just didn't like it as much as Prophecy or Red Sonja / Witch blade graphic novels. The story was good, but the art didn't match the story and I really wanted more. I would have expected much better, I mean this is Red Sonja form pity sake, how can you not make the art more appealing (you know what I mean). Red Sonja has always been a sexy female warrior that made men fear as well as admire. The author could have taken more time in developing the story, I admit it was not as good as the reviews stated, at least not for me. The Omnibus series is thick and has many colorful pages and it will entertain you. But for future reference, make my favorite female warrior fearless and beautiful please.

ok, not as good as Conan
I enjoyed reading this Red Sonjia book, but it does not deserve 5 stars. I also read the Kurt Busiek/Cary Nord Conan books, which in my opinion are much better.Pros: * Art is pretty good * Scale mail bikini, violence * Huge number of pages, good valueCons: * Story is stereotypical: get revenge while saving the world from evil. * The world just does not seem as large and mysterious as in the Conan books. * Kind of superheroey, with a main character and sidekicks teaming up against insurmountable odds. Sonjia is always trying to do the right thing, which feels at odds with the world and unbelievable given her background. * Art is more cartoony than the Cary Nord Conan art, and it lends a more comical feel than the gritty sketchy Conan books.I don't regret purchasing it, but I had hoped it would be better.

Although this book is 464 pages long it isn't boring, story is interesting. I haven't read Red Sonja before, but I have seen the old movie, and this book is very good for beginners. The art is good (artwork is very important to me, sometimes more then the story) it isn't great but it is very solid. Ending is ok if you don't want to read the next issues, so I would recommend this book to everyone.

Amazing omnibus on the She-devil
Really enjoyed this omnibus. Red Sonja is an awesome character, even though this iteration of Sonja is not a Howard creation she fits nicely into his Hyborian Age with some nice story telling and art. We get to delve into Sonja's past and what drives her forward, I really loved how the story was told. A really strong support cast as well help push the story alone. For those who missed out on the Art of Red Sonja Volume One this Omnibus will feature all the cover art and variants at the back of the book. Four to a page, so they are not full sized, but it is better than nothing!Fans of Conan and Howard and of Sword and Sorcery or Fantasy in general will enjoy this 300 page omnibus. It is a great place to get into the Heroine who has been around since the 70s!!
