Norpro French Fry Cutter-Fruit Wedger

This item works great. It's easy to use and it's great for small zucchinis for making fries, etc.The only issue is that it is small. Larger apples, zucchini, cucumbers, potatoes, etc. have to be cut in half or quarters to fit. Also, sometimes (probably over 50%) the item you are chopping won't come out all the way. It's not too big of a problem, because the next piece you cut will push it through. But it's a bit messy if you're only doing one, or to get the final one pulled out. Yes, it will cut your fingers if you push hard enough.All said, it's still a great item. Used for smaller pieces of food and being CAREFUL when you push them completely out, it is a real time saver for making vegetable or fruit fries.

My mom had a similar tool when I was growing up, and my kids love real fries, so I thought this was a good idea. The rubber feet do not grip on my counter. While I'm trying to hold it down, I'm worried that the pressing handle is going to smash into my hand. It doesn't work well (or really at all) if your taters have their skins on. It takes a lot of pressure to get harder things (like a potato) to go through, so when pushing on the handle, I never know when it is suddenly going to actually go through and then slam into the hand that is holding the thing in place. The bottom of the area where you put the veggie extends below where the cutting insert is, so smaller things don't get pushed through. I'm thinking that a device that allowed placing the veggie on top of the cutter and then pressing DOWN would be better. Looking for one of those, now.

We use a lot of new potatoes. The prep time for cutting enough potatoes was taking too long. This cutter does a decent job. One has to be firm on the handle and I found that a continuous motion worked best.The built in clamp requires a smooth surface to get sufficient suction. There is enough space at the bottom frontto slide a paper plate, wax paper or plastic wrap just under the edge before clamping to catch the cut pieces. Cleanup is fast and can usually be handled just by rinsing but a small diameter (1/2" x 2-3")round brush is helpful to clear the cutting slots. The parts should be air dried separately, so water doesn't linger on the metal blades to possibly promote rust.

I was worried this product might be flimsy, but so far it has worked quite nicely. The attachments are easy to swap out and clean up is a snap. We especially like the apple slicing attachment. Every now and then, you have to use some muscle power to get those taters through, but that is a minor gripe. I also wish there was an insert included that made horizontal only slices for au gratin potatos, but you can't have everything, I guess. Overall, this product is worth the price.

Delivery was very quick and packaged well. I love the different option of the large and small cutters. The apple core/slicer is cool but when you cut the apple the blades do not match up so you have to manually pull the last bit of thae apple out because of the mismatched blades. The overall constuction seem frigale al though it has not broken yet I am concerned that it will after a little use.

I had been buying all natural fries and decided that I would give this a try. It works amazingly well. Some larger potatoes need to be cut in half but that only makes them a uniform size. My kids love the home made fries and I have made apple fries as well. I have yet to use the corer but have sent about 200 potatoes through this. Very easy to clean. I would highly recommend this.

I chose this rating because the product does exactly what it's supposed to do in an easy fashion.I liked the fact that is could be used, cleaned and stored easily.I would recommend this product to anyone and everyone.

I bought this with hesitation on the reviews.. BUT.. so glad I didn't listen. I just love it.. I've only used it for French fries and only had problems with it once due to my error of not pushing the potato all the way thru, Just what I wanted and the price was economical for me... you won't go wrong IF you use it right
