Great book for healthy living!
Dr. Selassie's book is a *brilliant* resource not only for natural anti-aging, but health in general. Aging Brilliantly has real solutions and great stories to motivate you to doing something for your future health. Dr. Selassie covers all the topics that are trending today so that I know what to do, how to do it, and more importantly WHY I should do it. The book does a great job at explaining complicated topics like chemicals in environmental toxins, and has fun activities like quizzes and assessments to get to know where I stand. Highly recommended!

Awesome book, well written, easy to read, highly recommended
The guidelines to healthy aging, physical & brain exercise, diet, socialization & meditation were presented in a simple & easy to understand form. The suggestion on the Action Plan in Chapter 6 was excellent. We have a book club wherein the members are retired or nearly retired. It will be nice & informative to reiterate these guidelines during our post-book discussion socialization. Hence, I will keep this book for future reference.

Become a super-ager at any age!
AGING BRILLIANTLY is the fountain of youth elixir!POWERFUL, BOLD WORDS OF HEALING."We are not human doings, we are human beings."This is one of the best, most concise, easy-to-follow, purse-sized books I have come across. The author, Dr. Patricia Pimentel Selassie, is an intuitive healer, and a naturopathic doctor. Her writing is so open, welcoming, warm, and full of wisdom like a wise sage. Her grandmother lived to be a beautiful 102 years of age, while other family members were, unfortunately, passing in their 40's. She has the same DNA genes present in her body, but you see how our choices in life can contribute to dis-ease or good health. Evidence has shown that particular lifestyles and behaviors lead to "more life." This book aims to put more life in your years. Live well and age slowly. The "Wake and Shake" exercise was fabulous for a quick boost of circulation to my limbs.I loved that there was a BIG Mediterranean food guide shared! (page 42-43) The Mediterranean diet is packed full of fiber, detoxifies toxins, balances blood sugar, prevents diabetes, decreases inflammation (which is the basis for most chronic illnesses), and has many more health benefits. I can't wait to start cooking with more of these items on a daily footing! I've already started incorporating quinoa, cumin, turmeric, beets cauliflower, onions, garlic, grapefruit, quality olive oil and greens to our weekly meals, we've been feeling a lot better and more energetic!I really enjoyed all the ideas of how to increase neuroplasticity, I thought this was fun. I used to do this to overcome my fears, keep trying new things until it was no longer a fear, it became an experience. The recap sections were extremely helpful at pinpointing the most important lessons from the chapter.I loved the variations of meditations she presented. I personally resonate with guided meditations and mantras. Sometimes the only way to force everything out of my mind is by focusing on mantras such as "Inhale" on the in-breaths and "Exhale" on the out-breaths. She also shares about how singing or chanting the word "Om" helps to vibrate the body and strengthen the nervous system. I use this practice to strengthen my Vagus Nerve, it DOES have health benefits, I'm a walking testament to that! There were really neat tips shared such as how to synthesize more Vitamin D from the sun by exposing your inner arms and thighs, the thinner skin, to a few minutes of the sun; all sorts of neat little tips to nourish yourself.I'll end with this: Which fate will I create for myself through my own effort, beliefs, and choices? The quotes selected in my review may not reflect the final draft, as the author may have made changes prior to the final publication. Much gratitude to the publisher Rockridge Press, compliments of Callisto Media, for the early copy I received. I was under no obligation to write a review, my honest opinion is freely given.

Good overview of healthy living
Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for a review. (Thank you.)With the aging of the baby boomer generation comes the cumulative effects of habits from years ago. In other words, if you took care of yourself before, you're likely in good shape now. We know that smoking, drinking, and lots of processed food is a recipe for health problems later. But what's healthy today was considered unhealthy at one time (like eggs), so it's difficult to know if today's "healthy habits" are tomorrow's "bad habits."So Dr. Selassie has compiled this book on many ways to not only become healthy now but continue to be healthy as we age. She draws from her experience as a naturopath who has helped clients overcome a wide range of common illnesses with lifestyle changes and determination.Dr. Selassie also goes into a general discussion of toxins and their effect on humans. Suzanne Somers' book Tox-Sick offers a more in-depth discussion of that subject, and what you can do to avoid toxins and detox from things you may have accumulated in your system. The book is a great place to start on improving your health and ultimately, your life, for the long haul. None of us can predict how long we're going to live, but you can improve your quality of life so that your later years aren't filled with illness, prescriptions and hospital visits.
