Little hard to put on but SOOOO worth it.
I just got these last night and have to write about them right away. We had a horrible storm here in New Hampshire yesterday and the snow and ice are just terrible. I put these on my boots before walking my usual route of a poorly plowed sidewalk to work. They are FANTASTIC!!! I encountered every possible surface we have this time of year and not a single slip. I've had one bad fall this year resulting in a concussion and I have been very nervous since, I feel much safer with these. I've had the older style before and these are far better.

Keeps me from falling on ice
I have used these for years as I am outside on ice much of the day and have osteoporosis. They aggressively grab the ice with "teeth" on the bottom. I recommend buying a bigger size than you wear in shoes so that you can put them on your winter boots easily. For daily use around the farm in winter they last one season. For less vigorous use they would probably last for a few years before the teeth wear down. These are better than the coiled one that wear on much more quickly. Do not wear these inside on tile floors or woods floors or you will damage your floor!

Indispensible in difficult or icy terrain.
These are useful on ice, snow, and steep and difficult trails, especially going downhill. They are easy to put on, and they fold up easily and can be put in a little bag that comes with your order. They can come off or get twisted while you are wearing them if you are on difficult terrain. However, this is a small price to pay for being sure-footed on the trail. These do not provide as good traction as mountaineering crampons, but they weigh much less and are much easier to put on. The points will wear down quickly, so you need to be prepared to sharpen them. You cannot wear these on the street or inside. They are only useful on grades that are at least 15% or have ice or snow.

RUNS VERY SMALL, not good on smooth, wet surfaces.
I would give these a higher rating if they were sized correctly. I bought the size Small because the chart says a small is for Women's sizes 6.5-10. I wear a size 6.5, and I have to struggle to stretch them over my boots, and once they're on, they are very constricting and squeeze my toes together because they're so tight. I would need to go up to a Medium, even though I wear a Women's size 6.5 shoe.As for traction, it works great on snow and ice, but I almost fell when I slipped on smooth, wet tile and cobblestone. You still have to take extra careful steps.

they are fine when they dont break
Kind of 2 1/2 star...they are fine when they dont break....My husband wore these on one hike into and out of the Grand Canyon (yes there was ice and snow..took them off as soon as we hit dirt and put back on when we hit ice.) one of the chains snapped away from the rubber as he hiked out.(yes we have correct sizes) Doesnt sound horrible but the same happened to me last year with the same exact product. It is awkward to walk with it broken, yet unsafe to take them off in such terrain. We hoped they were a better product and hoped that mine breaking was a fluke and so we tried them again. They were great when they were intact but cant keep trying something that broke twice on us...off to find a different product for our next winter hike. Unfortunately it looks like im out of some return window and that makes me unhappy being stuck with a product that was worn once and broke,,

Great construction, aggressive treads - appropriate for medium depth packed snow or ice
Great quality. To be clear, these aren't for walking on moderately snowy sidewalks. They have an aggressive tread as you should expect given the name. The spiked sole needs to dig into snow or ice. I think that these Yaktrax should be in your "arsenal" of snow gear if you encounter packed snow or ice.Vendor was great. Product delivered on time as promised, despite a crazy snowy year. Thanks

Worth every dollar!
I purchased these to have with me during winter hiking. I live in Tennessee and hike in the Smoky Mountains weekly. I used these last week to hike to Mt. Leconte which is over 6,000 feet in elevation. We started early and the trail up has a lot of exposed rock on a narrow trail with complete ice. Currently there is 8 inches of snow and negative temperatures up on Leconte right now. These spikes did wonderfully and I wouldn't have been able to make the hike without them. Me and my friend wore our spikes the entire way (15 miles) and they held up perfectly. They truly lock you in and we had zero slips or falls with them. Awesome product!!

Serious!
these things scared me at first... they're VERY serious traction!! Had planned to send them back & get the "regular" Yaktrax.. although I tend to wear out a pair a season. But the weather got beastly before I had the chance to return them, and I had to use them. Very happy to report they work really well! They're easy to walk in, and I don't expect they'll wear out too fast. I call them tire chains for my boots.

So near and yet so far...
These offered excellent grip in hard, icy conditions in a compact and versatile package - I had high hopes for them. Unfortunately there is a significant design flaw - the chains securing the spiked plates can easily pull through the soft rubber used to grip the shoe. This occurred on their first outing - a wintery hillwalk. A real shame as they would have provided excellent safety and security if they were made more robustly. A simple metal ring lining the rubber would substantially reduce this major flaw. Additionally while the supporting chains appear to be made from stainless steel the base plates themselves are made from something much cheaper and rust far too easily - a minor quibble perhaps but if you're paying good money you'd like good quality to match.Ps a friend found the rubber on the Yaktrax Pro also failed after a single use.

Do not purchase
Do not buy. Chain tore rubber on back in 2 places within first 100 yards. They have no grommets, just holes for chains in the rubber straps.
