The SL range of pneumatic spear guns has been in production for many years now, and they have won worldwide fame for their excellence in terms of robustness, reliability, precision and powerful shooting. Constantly updated over the years, the SL spear guns are ultra light, easy to use, and fire quickly. They come with anatomical high grip butts enabling the gun to be held in line with the arm with no extra effort. The bright yellow butt means you can identify the gun even if it ends up on the sea-bottom after shooting.A strong line hook is situated on the bottom of the butt for shaft loading. The guns are fitted with a safety catch and, when the trigger is pulled, it frees the line releasing device. The SL range has a reducer so you can either use full power, or reduced power for close-up fishing and shooting near rocks. When the power selector is switched to reduced power, thanks to a non-return valve, the gun can be progressively loaded. The SL spear guns come with an 8 mm threaded steel shaft.Stainless steel shafts are available separately (for the SL 55 and SL 70 models only). The SL spear guns come in three lengths: SL 55 (55 cm long) SL 70 (70 cm long) SL 100 (100 cm long)

Safety does Not Work!!!
Don't laugh. I have a very high regard for Italian engineering. Owned a fiat 124 once and absolutely loved it and never had a lick of trouble with it. The Italians have been way undercut in Engineering respect, however, this Cressi spear gun has a yellow plastic slide switch for the "Safety". You have to figure out what position is "Safe" as it is not marked on the spear gun. Doesn't matter as I tried both positions and the gun fired consistently in either slide position. That really, really sucks that I cannot depend on putting this spear gun in the safe position. Good news is that you have to pull the trigger to fire it. If you buy this gun and dive with anyone else please put "Cressi.....No Safety foremost in your brain". Amen. Think I will check out some other brand. I am new to this so I am extremely disappointed the "Safety" doesn't seem to matter to Cressi??? Hope I am wrong and this is just a lemon that I got but if you buy this spear gun please test the safety first thing.....if yours works............great!! It is an easy test!

Good price
Great speargun. Loading is VERY stiff. I would suggest loading the shaft by pushing against concrete walkway, side of pool or rock. The more you use, the slightly easier it will be to load. It is made to retain the same pressure for entire life of gun. You should NEVER need to pump it back up. It doesn't lose pressure as you use it, so you should be able to use it for thousands of times without ever needing to re-pressurize. NEVER shoot it out of water though. You shouldn't keep a shaft in it, so if you need to release the shaft & no water is present, place it against pavement, press down against it & pull trigger. As long as you are pressing down against it, it will slowly release the shaft safely. If you shoot it out of water, it can ruin the internal mechanism since the recoil is made to be cushioned by the water density and you cab permanently damage the gun.

GREAT gun that only needs slight DIY improvements
Been using this gun for quite a few trips now; love the gun - compact, easy to load, accurate, deadly, FUN! Couple of small "plastic" downsides that they should improve upon, hence the 4 stars instead of 5, but a little DIY craftsmanship brought mine up to a 5 star model that's taken many a fish down. The little yellow plastic clip under the trigger broke the day I received it, while loading it at home. I dremel'd down a nylon washer, the same thickness as the thickest part of the yellow clip, and it's been working great since. Also installed a riffe spear bungee between the Cressi barrel and spear - I saw a lot of posts saying the plastic clip on the barrel broke after a few shots. And finally, used spearfishing mono-filament to connect spear to bungee, instead of the cheap string they give you.

Functions properly, light weight, compact, but seems to loose it power after using only twice with the factory settings . Had to give it more air. Don't feel that i should have had to do that, that quickly.

Great for low visibility. Small but packs a punch.
Great gun for low visibility. I started out with 2 band guns, one 70cm and the other 100cm. Since I dive mostly freshwater reservoirs, sometimes you can't even see past the end of your spear with the other guns. This one works really well (I got the 55cm). Even the 70cm one would be better since the spear doesn't stick out as far past the muzzle like a band gun does. It is easy to load and to aim. It does pack a punch though especially at the short range. I think it will still be good for longer range shots as well. I did have the line tangle up on one shot though since you wrap it so many times. I'm sure part of it is because I added a shock cord, but I hope long term it doesn't cause any problems.

the spear has a plastic ring around it with a hole and your line ties to the hole, my shaft pulled through the plastic ring and it could not have been anything i did wrong because it came already on the shaft

I bought this gun because I wanted one that was slightly longer. I have yet to dive in blue water, but for the clear waters of Lake Ouachita in Arkansas this is a hard hitting gun. I had to let a little bit of the air out so that it wouldn't blow the fish in half. I prefer this one to may Mares Frontiersman due to the length, which my mares is a 55cm. This 70cm allows me to reach further and place my shot more accurately. All in all it is a very dependable product and i would recommend it to anyone wanting to switch to a pneumatic with out paying an arm and a leg.
