Learn the history of Ori (with vintage photos and drawings), the fundamentals of various types of Tahitian dance, and the costumes used for each. Then learn numerous hip isolations, steps, posture, arm positions, hand gestures, and a complete otea choreography. All movements are clearly demonstrated from various angles and discussed thoroughly. "ORI II": Picks up where "Ori I" left off. After a brief review of basic steps (tarava tamo, fa'arapu, and ori tu'i) she moves on to more advanced steps and combinations including varu, ori va'u, fa'amenemene, hura, and nu'u. Each move is thoroughly explained, broken down, and demonstrated. Also includes costumed performances by Mahea & the KaUa Tuahine Polynesian Dance Company of aparimas (including Pakakina) from Mahea's CDs Moemoea and Tuahine Rain. 72 minutes. DVD is packaged in a plain small case.

It used to be (ten years ago) that very little other than this (on VHS tape) was readily available. That has changed a bit but this is still a stellar teaching tool. Mahea Uchiyama is the bee's knees.
