While the train does well on wooden tracks as far as remaining on the track consistently but because this train is essentially 2 wheel drive and the powered wheels are in the back and it's made to be used also without the motor makes it so it can't go up the simplest inclines! No traction and the rear wheels also slip constantly! That and the fact it has no lights or sound does not make this a worth while purchase! I have a cheaper train and all 4 wheels are motorized and while it's not as fast as this trackmaster it handles steep inclines easily has a light and makes train noises! This is going back!I want make sure people reading this know that I totally understand that there are trackmaster tracks specifically made for these trains and I have no idea if this particular train performs better on inclines on those tracks. My son has all wooden tracks and was trying this out in the hopes it would perform decently.

We purchased a trackmaster track for my son for Christmas and wanted an additional motorized train for it. This was a great price compared to other engines and he likes it just as much as he would have a Percy or Gordon train (which are almost twice as expensive). My son loved the cargo car, its doors open and close so he can put small things in it.

I purchased this for my 3-year old son who LOVES trains. I was a little skeptical about the quality since the price was so low. I took a chance and when the train arrived I was pleasantly surprised. The packaging was quality and the train was exactly what I was hoping for. Great buy, will be buying more in this line to make a larger track.

We have the wooden Thomas and generic tracks. I took a chance these would work and if not I figured riding on the hardwoods would be fine. Was happy to find these work fine on the wood tracks. Climb the hills and everything. When turned to the off position they free roll as well.

My son loves this train so much. It takes AA and has a bigger engine than the current ones out there, so it's a little louder and can climb hills better. A good buy.

I love it! My 4 yr old daughter was so happy when Santa brought this train. It is of a good quality but I wouldn't expect less from Fisher-Price. We found that it fits on the wooden Thomas rails also but does occasionally get stuck on the seams.

Got this to complement a track for my 3 year old and this is one of his favorites! Love the automatic function, just make sure you have your stash of batteries because your little one will keep it on ALL DAY LONG. Tons of fun.
