Excellent
I own a medium sized 20 year old video production company and have been using Canon DSLRs since they could shoot video. I needed a dependable way to interface my pro audio gear with our DSLR cameras. We use Canon 5D M3 and 60D cameras. I tried several other brands of audio adapters and they all failed as professional interfaces. I needed a true professional adapter that gave me dependable results every time. The DXA-SLR Pro is well built easy to use, small, light weight and does exactly what it should, give control over input and a way to monitor what you are recording. The battery lasts about 5 hours, plenty long enough to get through a day of interviews. If i had a wish list i would like to see a slightly stronger pre-amp, you need to crank up your microphone sensitivities to get good levels. The VU meters should also have a little wider range but it has a lot of head room and a really good limiter/compressor so this is really not a problem. I would recommend this to anyone shooting with a any brand of DSLR. I give it a 9.5!

Not the best option
I can't speak for all users or units, as I've seen some terrific reviews on the product. In fact, the good reviews are what prompted me to order it. But the DXA-SLR PRO that I personally received did not function properly. And when it was functioning, it produced--in my humble opinion--abysmal audio quality.First, my setup. Recording with a Sennheiser MKH 416 shotgun and a Sennheiser EW 112-p G3 lav. The device itself is ruggedly built, beefy, and seemingly would withstand the rigors of run and gun or studio shooting. So I was anticipating the audio quality would match the build quality. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to any expectation. The amount of audible hiss is staggering, and in quiet situations--interviews, quiet dialog--unusable. The unit only produced a somewhat useable track when switching to the MIX mode, vs. separate channel mode. This created a more audible dialog track, but also, sadly, doubled the amount of noise in the recording. Additionally, switching off the AUTO GAIN generated an ungodly, high pitch squeal. A loud squeal. Like a 2db squeal. I was hopeful this was just a function of something in the monitoring, but sadly the sound was present and very pronounced in my recorded track. The headphone volume requires turning past 9 in order to hear any realtime monitoring. And even at that is difficult to hear. And lastly, my audio meters were frozen from the first power up, and did not function at all during use.Based on the good reviews of this product from other users, there's a possibility that I simply received a lemon. But I am returning mine in favor of a ZOOM H6.

Just what the doctor ordered
I recently produced a video for church with my Nikon D600. The video was great but I ran into terribly serious issues with my audio. The people doing testimonies were not professional announcers and did not project. At the same time I wanted to keep the Heil PR 22 microphone out of the picture.Unfortunately the audio preamp in the D600 is horrible. When you turn it up over 1/4 to 1/3 the way it is extremely noisy. This had a very bad impact on the overall quality of the video. After much research I settled on the DXA-SLR PRO to solve the problem. It did! With its 20DB of gain it puts nice quite audio into the video.Highly recommended to anyone needing to record high quality audio with today's DSLR cameras. As a bonus it generates the phantom voltage which is very helpful when driving additional preamps for long cable runs and/or certain types of professional microphones.

Didn't work with Zoom mic
It wasn't able to pic up any signal from my Zoom shotgun mic with phantom power. The camera and another recorder worked with the mic no problem but when I plugged it into the Beachtek I got no signal. I also trouble shot the beachtek and it could pic up signal from my phone and the camera, just not the mic. I had to send it back.

Excellent for the experienced audio engineer
After installing the 9V battery and powering it on, I made some tests and clearly saw the benefits of it's best features: Clip Control clearly protected the signal from over-driving the camera circuitry, and was audible and viewable on the LED's during the peaks and on the monitor headset. The VU meters were an essential plus!! The adjustable gain controls, high and low gain switches, and LINE/Microphone switches clearly helped me calibrate the controls quickly. The Mono/Stereo worked well. I didn't test the phantom power. This professional unit is not for those without experience or need. BeachTek also makes their DX2/AT that is simpler and works extremely well, and rugged for outdoor use at less than half the cost.

Just great!!
Just great!!!! Great sound, light weight, VU meters are a must have & are very accurate. Mic connections are sturdy & conveniently located, controls are all on the front & are easy to get to. This unit has plenty of head room for my mics (Audio Technica at897) & produces distortion free audio and I know right where my audio is at on my Canon T2i with the VU meters coupled with headphones. The auto gain shutoff works well for mono/stereo recordings. It's also very easy on batteries, 5-8 hours on one 9v alkaline.I am very very happy with DXA-SLR Pro.

DXA-SLR PRO - DSLR Audio Adapter
Since using this dSLR audio adapter with remote XLR mics, lens focusing an camera operator breathing noises are a thing in the past. I have this tripod/dolly mounted with arca-swiss clams for quick and easy connect/disconnects. Note: must have extra tall camera cages if using on a shoulder rig.
