Q: I have used the Allen key to tighten the shoe but it is still moving and not secure. Is this a bad version I've been sent?

I removed the cold shoe as i dont need it, but its just an allen bolt and a rubber washer, it will always move if you put too much pressure on it

Q: Is it suitable to use with a Canon 1300D, by any chance? Trying to mount my phone on the camera, but not sure if this mount will do the job.

I don't think it will. It has two threaded holes one the size used on most tripods, and the other more suited to fishing bank sticks. There is a hotshoe fitment for adding a flash or similar when using a phone as a camera. I'm not sure how you would secure it to a camera.

Hi, The tripod you end up buying will have a standard 1/4 inch mounting screw to fit the phone mount. There are 2 standard sizes 1/4" and 3/8" and these should be with the tripod. If not, dont panic, there are plenty of adapters on amazon. Hope that helps. Phil.
