very nice aroma but tiny sharp pieces
Smells and tastes delicious but loses one star for usability. I am used to buying herbs from Chinese grocery stores but there isn't a store near me at the moment. At these stores the angelica root is usually sold as wide, thin slices or rectangular chunks; depending on my mood I either eat the softened pieces or throw them away. The pieces in the Starwest bag are tiny and irregular. Surprisingly, they didn't soften up very much after an hour of simmering. The result was that my herb-and-veggie soup had lots of little splinters that were too hard to chew but too sharp to swallow whole, while also being too small to fish out.So you need to either grind into a powder or use a large spice ball to contain the pieces. Or maybe they will soften enough if soaked overnight.
