Q: Plan to use this for fishing jigs. Is there a lot of slag content in it that would clog up the melter?

This was good lead. We made fishing jigs out of it with the help of friends and they said it was great quality lead.

Even though it is lead, it is still a metal and very hard in the ingot form. You could cut it very easily with a hack saw, but not with a knife or scissors. If you are building your own "heaviest to lightest" Montessori sorting materials, I would recommend the lead sheet from Roto Metals (same supplier of these ingots). Lead sheet you can cut with just scissors! Or search for fishing weights, these are easy to sort, come in a varieties of weights and could be easily secured with a little glue or hot glue in an container. Other items to consider "ball bearings" and "slingshot ammo"Remember that lead is toxic when ingested, but can be used safely. Our 4th grade Montessori girl helps her dad cast lead round balls for black powder, and they turn it into a whole physical science lesson, and with plenty of hand washing it is 100% safe.

Q: Hi, approximate weight of lead ingot 12" L x 3 1/2" diameter?

It's been so long since i ordered the lead that i don't recall the exact weight. I used the lead in my jig molds and there was enough lead to pour a lot of jigs. Might check with the manufacturer for the exact weight.
