Satisfying tale a good way to brush up one's French
Great narrative told by a troubled teen about life as a poor immigrant growing up in the outskirts of Paris. I read it in French--I don't know if it's available in English--and it's a fine way to practice one's French and learn some contemporary slang into the bargain. The narrator is a recognizable adolescent, alienated and turned off by the life she's been forced to lead but clearly ready to grow and change if anyone takes a real interest in her, and almost without her realizing it, people do. It's a terrific voyage of discovery and a good read.

Fantastique !!
Wonderful book! A little difficult to understand as a non-native, but it still was comedic and gave great insight to a different way of life. The people seemed so real, and their stories reflect the lives of so many today! It's a great read for advanced-low to advanced-mid French learners

Five Stars
Had enormous success with this in AP French classes. One can assign as much or as little as desired since the sections are quite short. I put ALL the vocabulary on Quizlet, and the sets are open, so help yourself. Sorry, I did do French to English! The students loved learning all the slang and some "gros mots." Since AP French is so challenging, there needs to be some short-term payoff, and the slang and "gros mots" was it. Very satisfying for them also to have read an entire novel (it is short)! Finally, the novel is in a very spoken style, so, indirectly, I think it helps their speaking.

No page locations
Great book, but the Kindle version is not useful for class because it has no page locations.

Engaging and funny
I love the characters, each was different but also similar as humans. The writer exposes the vunerabilities of each one and in the end, shows us despite the short comings of each character, they are still beautiful. It was aa true joy to read the book.
