This Optical Splitter works fine when protective cover is removed from inout cable prior to install
Prior to buying I read several negative reviews with statements similar to the following: "The splitter arrived in great time but did not work as expected. I was able to plug both of my optical cables into the splitter but when I tried to plug it into the separate optical port, the cable would not stay in well (it was seated properly in the port). It would not click in any further like the cables did in the splitter portion. I also had no sound to the 2 items I was trying to play thru the digital optical port even though it was connected. I will unfortunately be returning this item and looking for an alternative."As it turns out I had the same issue until I discovered there was a very small protective plastic cover on the center of the input cable. It is there to protect the optical fiber. This needs to be removed prior to plugging the cable into an optical port. When removed the optical cable on this splitter was a perfect fit into the three devices one which I tested it. The splitter works exactly as advertised. I have no issues with static, or weak signal, or intermittent signal as reported in several of the one star ratings. I am wondering if those folks simply messed up as I did by not removing the small and hard to see plastic cover on the optical input cable fiber.

It works fine but my cable box prevents it from working propertly
I have the single end plugged into my only surround sound optical port and the double end has Cable box and DVD player. I am giving this 5 starts even though it did not work for me. However it is more a fault of my equipment. It works fine except for the fact that the optimum Samsung Cable box is not recognized as being turned off since the light from the optical port still sends light confusing the splitter into thinking that the box is still on so it does not switch to the DVD player when I turn the DVD player on. This would work perfect for me if when I power off cable box it would also cut light emitting from the optical port but I suppose since the box has partial power being clock is on etc is part of the problem. It will definitely work well for this type of application but you can check your equipment prior to buying to see if you will have this problem. Sadly I will have to return it and find another option.

Doesnt work
Mixed reviews on this product. Some said it worked, others said it didn't. Decided to try it, and I made a mistake. It DID NOT work for me. Plugged single cable into my AV receiver. Plugged my DirecTV digital optical cable into one of the female openings and my Apple TV digital optical cable into the other. Only had one device running at a time. DTV worked fine - sound came through my AV Receiver. Turned off DTV and switched over to Apple TV. NADA. No sound coming out of AV receiver. Switched cables around with same result. Pulled digital optical cable from DTV out of splitter, and then Apple TV worked. Not a good solution. Would need to go behind entertainment center every time I wanted to use Apple TV and unplug the DTV cable. Product is not as described.

Great adapter but required extra work to fit flush in the socket
This is a great optical splitter and works as advertised. But I had to knock off a star and I'll explain why. Basically the design of the housing around the tip of the optical cable is a thick box like shape and the back of my TV is more round where the optic cable needs to be plugged into and the cable could not be properly inserted. This resulted in me getting a hacksaw and cutting off the thick plastic housing and that resulted in about 40 mins of work. I was extra careful not to damage the optic cable or the yellow tip where you plug into the device of your choice. After that I plugged in my optic cable from my Mee bluetooth audio adapter & optic cable into my sound bar. So now I can use my sound bar when I want and when I don't want to disturb my gf late night playing PS4 I can use my Bluetooth Headphones.Overall I would buy this again but knocked one star off due to the tedious amount of work I had to go through to avoid returning and purchasing another adapter. Great item and the price is awesome too. Just be careful and closely examine your device to make sure it'll fit flush when you plug the adapter in.

Great and inexpensive way to split your Toslink signal between two devices.
This little gem saved my butt..As most know, you always end up trying to interface new technology into older technology. I just upgraded to a new LG UHD Tv and a supporting Pioneer amp. My house is wired with ceiling speakers throughout, and beforehand I had two separate amps to power them. I wanted an all in one solution so bought an amp with a "zone two" feature. Started to set everything up and did not get any audio from the ceiling. Did some digging on the net and found out that most amps in normal peoples price range cannot pass digital signals to the zone two amp. so I had to figure out how to do this..Enter this little gem. I plugged this into my TV, then out the other side, one line to the amp, and the other into a Toslink/analog converter. Basically it's a tiny box that you plug your Toslink input in to, and out the other side are stereo RCA jacks which I inputted into the analog CD inputs on the amp which sent the music to the ceiling! If you run across this issue, here is the Amazon link to the converter: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00T3ZRI44?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00If my review was helpful to you, please click the yes button below! :-)

Works as advertised and in reverse
I am very happy with this product. I purchased this splitter to do the opposite of what is advertised, hook up my PC and my Xbox one into the same optical input on my receiver. The splitter does no audio mixing it simply takes both inputs and channels them into one optical line. Having both devices on at the same time may cause trouble however I haven't had any issues with both being on at the same time as long as only one is outputting audio. One important thing to keep in mind if you decide to hook this up to a computer (or anything else I guess) I did not get any audio output with the audio format set above 2 channel 96,000 Hz (studio quality). 192,000 Hz did not work.
