Cathedral Wood Portable Travel Strategy Board Game

I bought the full size version of this game a few weeks ago and LOVED it! My girlfriend and I play it all the time and my friends always want to challenge us when they're over. This travel size edition is about half the size and comes in the most adorable wooden case. The case not only has a metal latch on top, but also two pegs and two magnets on the bottom to keep it sealed when not in use. What impresses me most of all is that the pieces and the board itself are magnetized so that you can literally flip the board upside down and all the pieces will stay in their respected positions. A very clever and practical feature for any game intended for travel use. The game itself is wonderful, challenging, and a blast to play. Combined with this ingenious design, I would highly recommend this to anyone that enjoys quick, exciting, and mind stimulating games. Always think a few moves ahead! A+ Recommend!

Although probably not as stimulating as chess, Cathedral is a pretty interesting game. I bought it for my eleven-year-old nephew and ended up playing it myself with another adult. It was fun to speculate about strategy and to see the repercussions one particular move could have on the entire game. Children (and adults) who enjoy mental challenges would like this game. It's not something to which one could dedicate a lifetime, but it's more challenging than a jigsaw puzzle or a game of checkers. I bought the travel version, and it's very good for travel. Each piece is magnetic, so it sticks to the board. The board itself has a high rim around it, so nothing moves or falls off. The lid is sturdy and keeps all of the pieces secure.

We purchased our first Cathedral made out of poly stone 6 years ago and it's been one of our favorite games. Me and my husband used to stay all night to play this game.(till I won)As our kids grew, they were interested in this game but we didn't let them touch it because poly stone would break easily.So we finally got this set for our kids so they can play at home and in the car.When I opened it, it was smaller than I thought and the workmanship was not that great. The box has lined magnet sheet on the bottom which is a great idea so kids can play in the car and the little pieces won't fall off from the board. But the corner of the box was not well sanded and didn't look nice or clean.Each piece is made out of wood and has magnet on the bottom but the wood part doesn't have nice, clean finishing. Some pieces which have several corners seem like they were glued together so I don't know how long they are going to last. I've seen cathedral classic at my German friend's house(they bought it in Germany) and their pieces were solid hard wood but this set is not.The latch to lock two wooden box is flimsy. It is quite small and hard to latch.I now think that I should have bought cathedral classic with a little bit more money.Overall, the game itself is really fun and the idea of travel case is good but the quality and workmanship need to be improved.

Family likes it. Magnets work well. Almost broke the lid as it's lift off, not slide or hinge as it appears and there are somewhat delicate wooden pegs keeping it on.

I guess it would have been nice but the sentence structure in the instructions to know how to play the game were so poor that my adult son and I were unclear on how to play it. We got into an argument over how to play the game. He stomped off without saying a word. Sad for me. He doesn’t have time to come visit much. I got the game because he likes games & puzzles & is good at them. I thought we could have fun. This really backfired & it’s because someone didn’t take the time to write clear instructions. Also I wasted my 37 dollars as its beyond the return window

Part of the box top was missing and was taped shut as though second-hand. Shady.

I played this for years in my teens and my brother recently brought this version of the game for a weekend visit. It was an instant hit, and the magnetic design, small size, and great quality make it perfect for travel. This is now our "go to" game for family game nights.

It is not as large as I expected it to be, however, the quality is more than expected. I was pleased to find the pieces are mageitized to provide some security for the pieces if used in the car. (Just a precaution, the lid is not hinged. If not lifting straight up, the pegs on the corners may be broken.
