best configuration for someone in a wheelchair
An elderly relative has been falling out of bed, so I looked for rails. There are versions that fold down along the bed axis - which won't work because the user's wheelchair is there. There are telescoping options - that give a max of 10" of additional protection (pretty useless) AND which use those spring loaded balls which are often SO hard to use. NOT going to work for someone sleepy in the middle of the night. I was so pleased to find these. They fold parallel to the bed axis so won't interfere with the wheelchair. Their folded height is much lower than the mattress height, so won't get in the way of getting in and out of bed, and that big trigger handle is SOOO much easier for them to use. I am very pleased. They just came today and they seem like they are quite sturdy. I have boards ready to extend the included brackets so they reach even further under the mattress. The brackets have holes pre-drillled, so if your use case has something to drill into, those wouldn't be needed.Update: the brackets are a little thin for a heavy individual - truly rolling onto them could result in them bending instead of blocking. But the bottom frame is 1" square steel tube that comes predrilled with extra bolt holes on both ends. Should the brackets be problematic, I plan to simply bolt sturdy boards directly to the frame. To the manufacturer...even small triangle at the main bend points instead of mere bends would go a long way to increased stability! (makes me wish I could weld)

Measure first! (help is below)
This is a nice product but please read this & do some measuring before you decide to buy! The L end of the brackets measures 4" so in the down position is 4" below the bottom of the mattress, and flipped to the up position, it's 4" above the bottom of the mattress. That's an 8" differential! Up is too high and low is too low for us. What i need is that the bracket come straight out from the bottom of the mattress, with just the bend to support the railing section. Our mattress is about 7" thick ...Ikea bed... so in the up position it keeps my mom in just fine, but when she is sitting on the edge of the bed preparatory to getting out of bed, the side of the mattress compresses to the height of the lowered railing and she can't slide over it easily. It hurts because it's hard. If I put a little pillow there, it's really hard to get her over it and out of the bed. I've flipped the L bracket to the down position now, but with the railing in its fully up position, the top of it is just even with the top of the mattress, no help at all with keeping her from getting out of bed on her own and falling! I've inserted a very large acrylic cutting board vertically so that comes several inches above the top of the mattress. In other words, the railing is serving to hold something else that's high enough to do the job! ***If your mattress is either thinner or thicker than ours, it should work well. The side railing itself measures 13" top-to-bottom. So add the 4" of the bracket end to that, either higher or lower, to figure out where the top will come to when it's fully upright.***

Bed rail
Worked perfectly

It has definitely been a lifesaver!
I ordered this for my elderly mother to keep her from rolling out of bed and possibly injuring herself and just having to lay on the floor. We've been using it for quite a while now just to make sure I give it the most accurate review possible. I have to say I absolutely love this product as it allows her to feel safe without "trapping" her should she actually want to get out of bed. It was pretty easy to put together and I liked that it had different height "settings" just in case it didn't fit well. The only downsides I've noticed:It does have a bit of a wobble to it but nothing terrible as it works as intended. The only other "problem" is that if the bed you're putting it on is higher off the ground (i.e feet don't instantly touch the ground) you have to sit on the bar/handle and scoot across it which might take a little while to get used to.Other than those two issues I have nothing but praise for this!

Will NOT work with most modern mattresses
Returned immediately. Good for old mattresses or hospital mattresses? Probably. But if your mattress is over 6" thick or has a topper on it? Forget it. You will roll right over this thing.
