Good starter knife for those looking
Yes, it is a Japanese made knife. With this one, however, the quality went into it, and they produced a reputable field knife for the beginner. For average use and may be above, it will hold its own. Even against some high-end knives of similar category. The blade, like most blades from Japan, is extremely dull. But nothing a little time and effort won't fix. The company is noted for middle of the road kitchen knives so, with little to draw on, this is a good blade. The sheath, however, is a little rough? It does protect the knife, but that's about it. It's just a standard sheath that one would expect from cheaper brands. But this too isn't a deal breaker for this knife. With little or nothing to compare it too, I'd have to say alongside similar made or type knives, this is favorable. With a little work, a 'new' sheath, and some modifications, this will serve as a good addition to your outdoor, camping, or survival knife. Beyond that is still up for debate. Good size. Good design. Good function. Less than ideal sheath. Needs some honing. And some TLC to get it to the level of worthy. Almost there, though.

Decent Entry Level Outdoor Knife, but Not Perfect
This Purple Dragon knife is marketed as a hunting/ outdoor knife. After some extended examination of the product, I will offer both the pros and cons I see as well as my opinion on its overall fitness for intended use.- one-piece blade/ tang- having the blade and handle tang all one piece provides for a stronger and more rigid setup. The tang actually extends past the handle and has what appears to be a semi chisel shape. This would be useful for hammering, as a glass breaker, or even in a self-defense situation.- D2 steel blade- D2 is a tool steel that is high in chromium and carbon. It exhibits high resistance to wear and abrasion. It is also known for its ability to hold an edge for a long time. Not a bad choice for an entry level outdoor knife, but corrosion resistance is not as good as is seen in higher grade stainless steel.- Titanium Nitride coating- this coating picks up where the D2 steel falls in corrosion resistance. However, the coating is lacking in some areas. If you look closely at the sharp edges on the spine of the knife, you can see the D2 shining through the coating.- handle/ grip- the handle is knurled to provide for a more non-slip experience. However, as others have noted this knurling could be more aggressive to achieve better results. The finger indents in the bottom of the handle are a nice touch, but it would be nice if they had cut ridges in the spine of the blade right where the thumb rests to ensure a better overall grip, especially when thrusting the knife forward.- sheath- the kydex sheath works well with the knife but has some drawbacks. The knife locks into the sheath with an audible click when fully inserted. In this position, the knife cannot be dislodged from the sheath even when held upside down and shaking vigorously. While this is good from a loss prevention standpoint, it does pose a problem when trying to draw the knife one-handed when the sheath is held on the belt by the included belt clip. The knife is so tight, the entire sheath comes off of the belt before the knife will dislodge from the sheath. To remedy this, the manufacturer should put a metal belt loop on the sheath rather than a clip.- accessories- the knife also includes a sharpener on the sheath, a multitool that attaches to the back of the sheath, and a ferro rod that inserts into the top of the belt clip on the sheath. These are interesting and useful additions, especially the ferro rod.In sum, this looks to be a decent entry-level outdoor knife. Definitely much better than many of the other chinese made offerings out there with some useful additions. Some drawbacks lost it a star, but it retained the other four. While this is not a high-end survival knife, it would be great for camping, backpacking/ hiking, or for adding to bug out/ survival gear.

Solid Knife Overall
This is a pretty solid knife. It comes with everything you see pictured from the sheath, knife, stainless rod and a small tool. It does come with a clip on the scabbard which can easily go onto your belt. I wish it had a locking mechanism where it wouldn't slip out of you bumped it from the bottom. Other than that, the blade has a full tang that goes past the handle having a chisel as a bumping end. As for the blade, it's really nice and coating as a good nitride finish as well. The finishing is very smooth. As for the handle, the stippling isn't that aggressive, and it can get pretty smooth if just a little dirt or mud gets in-between the grooves. I'll have to make deeper grooves just to make it more aggressive. Overall, this is a pretty solid knife which comes with a sharpener and a honing rod. It's solid out of the box and it's well worth it.

Knife is great. Sheath is horrible.
Great knife! The sheath would have been great if it had a belt loop instead of a belt clip. It pops off the belt when I sit. The knife is hard to get out because of the proximity of the riser belt clip. Taking the clip off and adding a web belt loop. Then it should be fine. Also, lost the multi-tool on the first day in the woods. Not a great idea to have it mounted where it falls straight down.
