Q: How does it boil the water ?

Lol.....it doesn't! You have to boil water separately. Having said that, this, to me, is a fantastic piece of kit.....so well made and makes great coffee! Worth every penny!!

Q: Does it have another lid to keep the coffee in that cup, without piling the filter and grinder etc back on top?

The thin circle on the very top of the unit (red circle on the black maker; black circle on the red maker) comes off and can serve as a lid for the cup. I haven’t used that function, but it seems that the lid is designed more for keeping the coffee hot in the cup, rather than preventing spills from the cup.
