These are sturdy and slim, so they fit into an ordinary wallet or purse etc. (No need to buy a special, expensive protective wallet!) I've had this type of product before and they last for ages and overall are much more affordable than buying metal or mesh types of protection.TIP: You can trim off the top edges when they eventually fray, using a sharp pair of scissors, although you then have to make sure that you place your card in with the chip fully covered by the remaining protector - it's only the chip that needs screening!

The increased use of contactless-enabled, credit or debit cards, using RFID (radio frequency identification), allows much quicker transactions by simply placing the card close to the point-of-sale (POS) reader at the checkout. Unfortunately, the same technology can be used by someone else stood close to you, equipped with a hand-held RFID, POS scanner - readily available on-line. Unauthorised scanning of a RFID card would, typically, occur whilst the card was in a wallet or purse, as the scanner would need to be within a relatively short distance away from your pocket or handbag etc., to wirelessly access data on the card.It's been shown that direct payments (under 30 Pounds) can be stolen using one of these scanners and you wouldn't realise this had happened until you checked your bank statement or your bank became suspicious and contacted you !Eight RFID blocking sleeves are supplied, each with a different pattern - useful for remembering which of your cards has been placed inside. They appear to be made from laminated card which includes a thin layer of aluminium foil. This effectively forms a radio wave 'shield' around a card placed inside it and prevents an unauthorised transaction.To test whether these sleeves did actually work, I left my contactless credit card inside one of them and proceeded to purchase an item in my local supermarket. I found my card couldn't be read whilst it was still inside one of them. After quickly removing the card and placing it onto the reader again, allowed the transaction to take place.So, to conclude, these RFID card blocking sleeves seem to work okay. I did find that most cards I tried were a tight fit and occasionally stuck on a folded-over seam at the base of the sleeve, whilst inserting the card. It's advisable to place your card into a sleeve with the contactless symbol end first, to ensure it's fully and effectively shielded.Disclosure: A complimentary sample was provided by the supplier for testing.
