Great Solenoid replacement! Working shower again!
After my in-laws shower stopped working, I diagnosed a faulty solenoid and went on the hunt for a good, cheap replacement. I came across this and decided to give it a go as it was a good price and looked like it would do the job just fine.Bear in mind that I know nothing about electrics or showers but even taking this into account, this was an easy to fit replacement and sorted the issue immediately. They went from a shower that wouldn't work at all to a shower that restored back to a fully functional state.Happy in-laws and didn't cost much to fix!

Quick and easy fix
We've got a Triton Sambada shower - about four weeks ago it started cutting out after it had been on for more than five minutes (which meant only our teenager noticed!), but it got progressively worse until it would only work for a minute. After seeing on a number of sites that the most likely cause was the solenoid I ordered this one - even if I was wrong it was only a tenner.Turned off the power at the junction box and removed the four screws holding the front face on (it is worth taking a picture first to ensure the controls line up correctly when reassembling ). I didn't turn the water off, although other people have advised it in case you damage the valve. At this point I checked the resistance of the old unit with a multimeter - it should read above 3.4 ohms, but it was just 1. The new unit read 4.3.Luckily this particular model has easy access to the solenoid (see photo) - just disconnect the wires, then gently prise the old one off with a screwdriver. Push the new one on (bit of grease helps), reconnect and fasten the front panel back on and it works great.

Don't open the bag (or spoil the bar code) before successfully removing the old solenoid. Just in case you want to return it.
The product is no doubt fine. But heed my warning: DO NOT open the packet before you have got the old one off. We followed the instructions, but broke the old solenoid holder off when removing. Our shower unit was not that old, I don't know if there was anything else we should have done, but getting it off was very difficult (just wouldn't prize off as described). When the valve breaks, water will pour out if still switched on. So be ready with the stop valve. As the return was conditioned to an intact bar code (which is broken to open the packet) the money was wasted.I'm all in favour of repairing things, so if you have the time, do try it. You might even ask for instructions to try to get the old solenoid off before buying.Sadly, the complete valve seems to cost over 30 GBP, and the complete shower unit only around 50.

Shower fixed
When my Triton (Topaz) shower started to regularly shut off, and display the low pressure warning mid shower I assumed it was broken and started to look for a replacement.Whilst looking through the long list of showers I noticed this solenoid coil, the symptoms described were the same, so for £10 and a bit of work I thought it was worth a go.I watched a video on fitting it (always a good idea if you've never attempted it before) and ordered the part.It arrived pretty quickly and was packed, with a useful instruction sheet in a Jiffy bag. Then came the fun bit!Fitting wasn't as straight forward as in the video I watched (nothing new there then) as there was more to remove from my shower to get the old solenoid out, and the new one back in. It was a bit tricky and I did end up taking the shower off the wall to get it done but it fitted well and just took a little longer than expected to do.The end result? Well, I now have a shower that works perfectly, and for a fraction of the cost of a new one.Very, very pleased!!!

Easier than wiring a plug and shower back working as good as new,
A fantastic way to save money. A few years ago we paid a shower specialist €80 to clean a filter and I said never again. Replacing the solenoid was easier than wiring a plug and the shower is back working as good as new, I would recommend looking at some youtube videos before changing the solenoid.Of course, mixing large amounts of electricity and water is potentially lethal so do not undertake this job unless you know what you are doing.

and we immediately thought that the best thing to do was purchase another shower
Our Triton T80i suddenly stopped working, and we immediately thought that the best thing to do was purchase another shower. Not necessary! Having searched online we took a chance that the coil was faulty and purchased this one from British Shower Spares. It arrived in the post next day along with easy to follow instructions. Replaced the coil, took some advice from Bob the shower man and now the shower is working as normal. Brilliant service!

My Shower works!
Thanks to the internet I diagnosed what was wrong with my shower, ordered this item which came quickly. Thanks to the included helpful instructions which complemented online videos the shower now works again! Given my usual DIY consists of bluetac or duct tape I was pleased how easy it was and saved a lot of money not calling out a plumber!

This did the trick and my shower works fine. However
This did the trick and my shower works fine. However, the way my shower (a Triton T80xr) was configured inside, made it really hard to get at to remove it. I am a reasonably competent DIYer but had to call in my plumber, who also found getting it out rather tricky. When the job was finally done, it did fix the problem.
