My wife will be having hip surgery within the next couple of weeks. Because she won't be able to put any weight on that leg for at least 2 weeks, she'll be stuck either on the bed or on the couch during that time.What she wanted was a lap table that she can either put her laptop or kindle on. I like that this lap desk has a flip top that she will be able to angle up so she won't have to hold her kindle the entire time she's using it. The desk has a little lip on it so the top can be angled up and the kindle won't slide off.It's also wide and long enough for her laptop with her mouse.Then she can also have enough room for a plate, silverware, and a glass without the fear of one of the items falling off.She likes the small drawer that's on the side of the lap desk. She'll be able to store her phone or some other small items in it so she won't have to move around.We practiced with the lap desk with her being in the bed. Had no problem with height over her thighs. She said she might have a harder time with it if it was taller. Lap desks are suppose to be more on your lap. Not 6 inches above it.The legs don't lock open but, had no problems using it the way it was.Only downfall was that the small drawer doesn't have a way to stay closed when moving the desk. A small fold over clip would have been nice.Otherwise this a nice sturdy lap table. And it's nice looking too.

I think improvements have been made since the first reviews were posted. The quality is fantastic and the inner drawer dimensions are larger. My brand new mess o' #2 pencils fits perfectly in addition to a bunch of my various pens and notepad and eyeglass wipesExcellent! Great price for a well-made quality product. Frankly, I was hesitant to see what I got after reading some of the reviews here, but this is fabulous. This thing is tight - no wiggles, no looseness, all hardware is straight, true and tight, no loose joints, no sharp edges.1) The finish is flawless - no scratches, dings or flaws in the wood surface anywhere (and I checked this thing over like a dermatologist looking for skin cancer)2) I'm a fat gal (225 lbs) and this clears my charmingingly chubby thighs while on the bed with zero problem, even room to move my knees up and down for circulation. I can even cross my ankles without disturbing this table. Yes, I have really fat thighs and3) The drawer inner dimensions are 5.3125" front to back x 7.4375 side to side x 1 inch deep4) There is an adjustable angle part of the tabletop of 4 angles in addition to flat5) The flip-up side has a nice wood bar to stop your book/tablet/laptop from sliding off into your lap when the surface is inclined6) The immobile portion of the tabletop measures 7.5 x 13.25 front to back7) Every single piece of the wood is stained! Yes, even the underside!The only thing close to a downside is that this is so purty and well made that I can't bear to paint and decoupage it, lol! *sarcasm*BOTTOM LINE: This Lap Desk is FABULOUS!

I was in the market for one of these for a few weeks before I came across this one. Most of the ones I liked were weirdly expensive! But this one was a great price ($17.30 when I bought it), and was actually the same shade of wood as the furniture in my room, so it was an easy choice. Because it cost SO much less than other similar lapdesks, I expected it to be cheap and shoddy. I was not at all prepared for the high quality of this desk!It is real wood, it is sturdily built, and it works exactly as promised. There is very little that I would change, but there are a few things, which is why the 4 stars:1) The bar that keeps the laptop from sliding off is fixed, and ones I've used in the past were removable. Removable would be better.2) It is sturdy and heavy, yes, but HEAVY. I would probably go as far as to say TOO heavy. It really is a solid piece! Unfortunately, solid isn't always what you need when you need portable!3) This is the biggest deal to me, by far: The legs and the drawer do not lock into place at all. So when you fold it up to set aside, the legs swing back open. And though the drawer has a stopper that keeps it from falling out entirely, it does fall right open when you turn this desk on its side. For both of these issues, I plan to make some adjustments myself to keep these things mobile when I want to move them, but fixed when I don't want them to move. Though I think the fix will be fairly easy for me to accomplish, I feel like this is something they should have done on their end, and it would have saved me a lot of frustration so far!All in all, though, this is a great lapdesk for a great price! I am so glad I bought it that when I came here to write this review, I saw a "like new" one selling for a discount, so I bought it too, even though I don't even need a second one! But I am sure I will be happy to have it on-hand when the need arises.
