Q: What are your thoughts on getting this velcro version versus the elasic strap version?

I honestly think the elastic strap version is better than velcro. I don't prefer attaching the velcro onto a special instrument. If you do put it on and take them out, the chin rest could get sticky/not feel how the way it was.In the other hand, if it is elastic, it is easy to take them out. It's more convenient.I always use a pad on my violin chin rest during practice and take them out when performing.

Q: What is the difference between the two sizes? How do I know which one to order? I have a 16" viola.

The large size also covers the metal clamp for the chin rest. I highly recommend that one.

Q: Does this also fit 1/4 violin?

It is made to fit on a 4/4 size violin. However, it is a fairly soft material and would be very easy to use scissors to cut it into the right size for a smaller violin. As a teacher, I think this would be a great idea/fit if your student/child is having some discomfort on the neck or under the chin from the violin.

Q: Does this fit on a 1/2 violin?

I imagine it would fit. It's kind of a squishy pad that sticks to the chin rest, you could always use scissors to trim off any excess.
