AUTO METER2888 Performance Tachometer,2.625 in.

Used this on a tractor to replace the broken factory cluster (that was $580 to replace...hahaha, not happening). I used a hole saw and cut/recessed the gauge into the dash. Works great, lights up well. Heads up, you HAVE to calibrate this. IE, there is an adjustment screw you will need to adjust so that it reads correctly. With a broken factory tach and no other reference, this was a bit of an issue. I referred to the tractors manual, found out it listed both the idle speed and max speed. Used those value and some throttle playing to get it close.Only down side I can see, condensation in the lens. My tractor sets inside a garage, but just from temp swings moisture collects inside the gauge making the lens blurry. Still usable, but its an annoyance.Still - great product....minor gripe.

I wish diesel tachos were cheaper, but this product works fine. It was the cheapest quality one that I could find for my application (1991 VW Jetta TurboDiesel). It works fine so far, but I haven't gone to a diesel mechanic to have it checked with the injector pump timing. Currently I have it adjusted based off one of those reflective tape RPM meters.

Only reason for 4 stars on accuracy & value is; I haven’t checked it against a high dollar remote tach yet, & I haven’t had it for that long yet to speak of longevity. Installation is very easy, it’s well back lit, & it reads consistently so far. Overall, I’m happy with it.

Installed the gauge, didn't work. Sent it back and I guess it was repaired. Received the gauge 3 weeks later with a repaired invoice. Once again hooked it up and it still doesn't work right. The needle just bounces around and does not accurately reflect the engine RPMs. Now I'm trying to get my money back, what a waste of time.

I have 1997 Ford 6.8L, 415ci V10 engine. I found out from Ford and other shops that there is not a TACH plugin.So I used my Tach-gun on the Harmonic Balancer with a small reflector tape. Now I had the exact RPM.There are Tach's out there for $250.00 and up that use the Reflector tape or Magnet with a HAL sensor, they were mostly Digital 2 1/2 inches.So, I went looking at Analog Tachs, meant for Diesel engines.This Auto Meter Tach fit the bill exactly, and it can be used on ANY engine that has an Alternator, plus it only went to 5k RPM, the V10 red lines at 4800RPM then the computer shuts down at 4900 RPM, 1997 is the only year I know of that is setup like this.The pickup is around the Alternator, so the reading will be different than the Harmonic Balancer, that is where the Reflector Tape comes in.

Works perfect. If you get the sensor in the right spot the needle will not bounce. Easy to install

I installed this tach on a tractor instead of paying John Deere $450 to replace the original. Just be aware that unless you have a laser tach or some other kind of way to measure engine speed you will have to purchase one to calibrate it. But once its calibrated it works and is accurate.

Tach is OK, doubt I'll need the 8000 rpm range. A quality tach that has a 0-5500 range would be appropriate for 99.88% of all domestic vehicles yet Autometer just won't make us that. I would love the expanded more-detailed rpm range afforded by a 5500 tach limit. The comments about a "cloud" of moisture inside the bezel face are true. I live in a drier climate and it was happening everyday until... I drilled two small holes in the housing. One hole into the bottom and one in the top. No more cloud. Why Autometer makes this unit so sealed is a mystery. Do they think we'll install it on the exterior of our car on the hood like a tuner? No thanks. I'd might be more understanding if I bought the cheaper Autogage by Autometer but I dropped the bigger coin for quality Autometer and here I am talking about how I had to drill two holes in my over-priced Autometer tach to eliminate the condensation cloud that formed daily on my interior mounted tach. Well done Autometer. When I raced cars 20 years ago the quality was evident from the minute you opened the package. Guess your best days are behind you...

This is pretty much the most commonly recommended aftermarket tach for 5.9 Cummins and so I thought it would be worth a shot.. definitely on the higher end price wise but it works exactly as expected and is holding up alright so far

Works fine for a 245 Massey Ferguson after blocking oriignal TACH hole in dash with piece metal ,I drilled out a hole in the piece on metal I installed so that the Auto Meter 2888 Z-Series would fit in>Looks Good
