This is a great and affordable base unit for Syrian hamsters. But please keep in mind, you need to get other additions for this to be a suitable home for your hamsters.I recently adopted two Syrian hamsters that had been confiscated from children living in dorms at my college. They were confiscated due to neglect and were in rough shape when I got them. The hamsters were also overcome with boredom in the plastic boxes they came in (basic plastic terrariums not made for hamsters) and did little else but slept and tried to escape. When I was looking for suitable homes for my hammies (Ultra Pipi and Minimoose) I wanted something that would keep them entertained and could replicate their burrows in nature. The Habitrail Ovo series fit this bill. While it may not occur to some people, hamsters need stimuli just like any other animal. This series is perfect for hamsters and I applaud whomever the designers were. My hamsters have stopped their continual attempts of escaping and are happy and comfortable in the Habitrail I purchased for them.This set comes with the main "home" for your hamster, a wheel, a water bottle, a plastic maze toy, and a food bowl. I purchased this and two add-ons for my hamsters (each got their own Habitrail as Syrian hamsters fight). I would suggest getting the add-ons so your hamsters have plenty to do and can scurry around, choose a spot for their bed, and have a happy life. I purchased the "Habitrail Ovo Adventure Pack" and "Habitrail Ovo Mini Maze and Tower Value Pack". The quality of this brand is very high when compared to other hamster cages. The twist on locks for each separate piece make building easy, and cleaning even easier.The wheel actually helps keep the Habitrail clean. There are small openings along the center of this wheel with a collection pan underneath. Hamsters void their bowels when running, the design of the wheel allows for the droppings to fall into the collection pan that can easily be dumped out and cleaned. Meaning, there is less soiled hamster bedding. Not only is the wheel good for keeping the Habitrail clean, it's also tall enough for hamsters to run comfortably without having to arch their backs.I highly recommend the Habitrail Ovo series to anyone looking for a nice home for their hamsters. The quality is superior to all other hamster cages I have seen, and believe me, I looked at all available hamster cages online and in person.

The media could not be loaded. This was the last Habitrail Ovo Habitat I purchased to round out our Habitrail Hamster Village.Of all of the OVO lineup, this one is the easiest to set up and has the fewest parts to contend with.The main pod is the same as the OVO Studio, The OVO Dwarf Hamster Habitat etc... same 132.73 square inches of roaming area the parts are completely interchangeable.The wheel is on the outside of the main pod, so this opens up the space for other interesting pet toys.The outside wheel is just over 7 and 1/2 inches in diameter, so plenty big, with a white piece to catch any bits and litter that might fall through the wheel openings.Assembly is easy and plans are well illustrated.The base is transparent, so your pet may feel a bit "exposed" and you will definitely want to get something that provides a dark hiding space for your pet to feel secure.This fine for Hamster, Gerbil, or Mouse, but should in my opinion, be attached to other Habitrail Habitats such as the Cristal, or if you want to go BIG, get the Habitrail Loft. Of all the habitats we currently own, the Habitrail Cristal seems to be a favorite location for using the exercise wheel and the drip, ball bearing style, drinker seems to be the most used by dwarf hamsters.For sleeping quarters, the upper pods of the Habitrail Dwarf Hamster Habitat is a favorite, and the second most used sleeping area is the lower level (under the cardboard maze) of the Habitrail Loft.The Hamsters have not used this exterior exercise wheel yet, but it's only been in use for 48 hours. Everything functions smoothly and the cage locks securely with a very good view of the interior from every direction.This also comes in Pink, and other than the color, it's identical.If you already like the other Habitrail OVO Units, you'll be equally pleased with this one and I could find no significant drawbacks.While I'm writing this review, one of the Robo Dwarf Hamsters is finally in the exterior exercise wheel, so that's a thumbs UP from her.Do I recommend it? Yes indeed, again, as a component of a larger system, not a stand-alone habitat. Habitrail hit it out of the park with the OVO lineup.

We have several other Habitrail ovo cages connected with a slew of tubes for our mice, we even have the blue version of this pink one ordered as well (with an external wheel & water bulb)… & the plastic can be a little ‘particular’ & brittle at first, but the systems are generally a better build than any other hamster/mouse cage we have owned… However THIS cage came with the dome completely broken in half (& was positioned in such a way that suggests it was shipped that way, not that it happened in transit), additionally there were several parts missing… the plastic food tray, cozy hideaway cube, water bulb & conectors/window were ALL missing), the only things that were in fact in the box was the enclosure itself (again with the entire top broken fully in two & with some plastic connector tabs broken off), & the wheel, with no connectors & another broken plastic tab in addition to having some ‘unclean’ material stuck on the inside of the tube suggesting that this was obviously previously used (poorly)… I do truly love these cages, but to send something in this condition was ridiculous enough, but additional to all this we had waited about 2.5 months for this item to finally be shipped out with several delays on previously estimated delivery dates… VERY DISAPPOINTED
