Between The Lies

Memphis May Fire kills it
Don't be fooled by Amazon, this EP was released in November 2010. This is their second release with frontman Matty Mullins after their debut album Sleepwalking. All of their releases with Mullins are fantastic, I own them all.

Not as Good as their Full-Length Debut ...
This EP is not as good as their full-length debut, but that was expected since this EP was constructed and issued to release themselves from their contract with Trustkill Records. Memphis May Fire are now currently signed Bullet Tooth Records and already have all their songs recorded for their sophomore album. So, I figured Between the Lies [EP] would just be another half-album slapped together by "B-rated" scrapped songs that didn't make the cut for their next album. But I was wrong, this EP surprised me because it wasn't as bad as I thought it'd be. Though MMF mostly repeat similar techniques and structure displayed in their Sleepwalking album, lead singer, Matt Mullins (who does both the screaming and clean singing) does improve upon his clean singing. For example, Matt Mullins shows off his vocals in Track 3: "Vaulted Ceilings", the only MMF with a slow tempo. This EP is also different in that the guitar riffs lack the Southern tone displayed in their previous releases. Instead, this EP uses more hardcore breakdowns and sounds similar to generic post-hardcore bands out there, which can be either a good or bad depending on your musical preference. After listening to this EP a few times, I do recommend this EP because all their songs are pretty catchy and are very easy to get into.

Broken Case
This product arrived very quickly; however, it was packaged in a cheap bubble mailer. At first glance, it looked to be in mint condition. After inspecting further and taking the plastic seal off, I discovered the front case to be cracked. While the disc itself was in mint condition, I am extremely disappointed that the case was broken, most likely due to improper packaging and lack of care prepping the CD to be shipped.

Memphis May Fire is a great band for sure
This is when they made the transition from a sort of Southern Post-Hardcore sound to a type of Metalcore sound which isn't the most original genre to fade into but they do it very well. I definitely recommend this EP.
