Determine your use before purchasing.
Great product, but a little mis-leading on how low it can drain. The Simmer literature shows it clearing flat roofs at construction sites, but I can't imagine it would work that well. Instructions say it needs to be in 2 inches deep of water, and the pump starts pumping some air when it gets down to the last 1/2-3/4 inch which probably isn't good for the pump.I was going to use this product to clear a flat roof, which would be similar to someone wanting to clear a basement, or have a backup pump for low spots. I would NOT recommend this if you are relying on keeping water at the lowest level possible (as it will leave 3/8 or more of water). I compared this to a Coleman 17-msp which is a 1/6 HP pump. A smaller pump, but actually is rated to pump the same gallons per hour. The Coleman pump not only cleared down to the last 1/4 inch, if I remove the screen it would go lower. The instructions also say to submerge in 3/4 inches of water vs. the Simmer pump which states 2 inches.ALSO - If you are looking at pumps to clear flooded spaces (not pools) 1/6 or 1/4 horsepower is MORE THAN ENOUGH. Its almost too much power for draining a low spot on a flat roof because it will constantly be cycling on and off due to it ability to move so much water.Draining pool - Get the Simmer for speedDraining any other area - Get a Coleman, to keep you from scooping our the last 1/2 inch or using a wet dry vac as much.

I was told this is the best pump and I needed it quickly because my cellar had flooded

Works well
I have had experience with Simer pumps before and are satisfied with this one; I wish it had an automatic on/off, however.

I got it fast I needed it an emergency
I had the same brand for over 30 years and it finally conked out. I’m disappointed that it doesn’t have an automatic shut off and it doesn’t draw down as far as the old one did.

Worked like a charm
Bought this pump because our back yard floods during heavy rain. We set the pump up with a hose to the street and the yard drained within a couple hours. Ended up taking it to our daughter's house to help drain their flooded basement. It does NOT drain all of the water from a basement - leaves about ⅓ inch - so not the best for that use, but it kept her laundry sink from overflowing into the basement and took out most of the water.

Life Savor... not...
When we had leaking issues in the basement during a heavy pour, this thing really came handy. It prevented me from keep shop-vac'ing all night long. Even a thin puddle of water gets sucked out!(Update):Since my last review, soon it started to not work. Overheating was normal occurrence, but it still worked in the beginning, so I didn’t think anything of it. But it started to just overheat without pumping anything out often. And soon, it just overheats but absolutely nothing gets pumped out. Not even a year old and it died on me in 6 months. I ended up buying Everbilt from Home Depot. It was cheaper, pumps water out way faster. And because it’s powerful/faster, I didn’t have to have it on as long either.

Great for flat surface water removal!!!
This is a great pump for flat surfaces!!! I get water in my basement every year. This pump is a work horse. When used with the (Flotec FP0012-6U-P2 Universal Discharge Hose) it gets the job done. It just needs a little clearance off the floor. I found using the tip of a flat head screw driver under it gives it the perfect height to do and amazing job. If you dont use the screw driver it will suck the floor and not be as effective. ***If you are using this on flat surfaces duck tape the three holes on the top for better suction.*** I thought I made the biggest mistake purchasing this... then I covered the holes that release the bottom screen from the housing. Night and Day!!! It will clear water down to 3/8" on my basement floor. Then thats when my shop vac comes out.
