Peavey Raptor Plus Ivory Electric Guitar

Beautiful glossy ivory finish. Maple neck and fretboard outstanding. Almost all frets were level - guitar played at low string action without any string buzz. All six nut slots were filed to correct depth. All electronics worked and sounded great. The only negative, the edges of the frets were sharp, nothing more than 5 minutes with an Emory board (certainly, not unusual for an inexpensive guitar). I gave Peavy 5 stars on this one, considering the price. However, there was only one big problem: UPS? during shipping knocked a dent in the frontside body about the size of a quarter, and the paint was cracked around this dent in a circle. Also the tuner at the top of the headstock was bent out of alignment from rough handling. What a shame! So, I had to return it. And the sales price was no longer available, it had gone back up to regular price. Just got unlucky on this one- it happens. If I see it on sale again, I’ll buy it again.

Frets on this one was not good! Had to file 3 frets to get the rocker to stop. Set up was poor. Not a good thing for beginners. Was going to play with mods on this one anyway so no big deal, just more time. Now it plays great and time to start messing with mods.

I wanted a guitar around $500. I bought a Krammer Assualt 220 and sent it back. For a $500 guitar it had fret buzz. I play alot on clear channel and I was not impressed.So, I went with a Peavey Raptor Plus. For the price the sound is very decent. Only problem I had was frets sticking out.

I don't usually take the time to write reviews but I felt like I should on this one. I have been playing guitar both professionally and recreationally for 22 years and I have played on dozens of guitars during that time. While it IS a cheap guitar, and feels a bit light and somewhat flimsy, I was actually impressed with this one. I was in the market for a nice cheap guitar that I could toy around with (and basically beat the crap out of) and came across this one on sale for less than $200. I have a vintage Peavey T-60 and it is one of the best and smoothest guitars I've ever touched, so I figured Peavey was a pretty safe bet. I was not disappointed, and on the other hand, I was actually surprised at how well it played. The stock strings are a little bulky, but they bend really well for soloing and actually have a nice tone to them even when not playing through an amp. I hooked it up to my VHT 12/20 with a Line 6 cabinet, along with my T-Rex Totenschlager pedal and was able to achieve a nice crunchy rock/metal tone with just a few tweaks of the knobs. The other thing that has consistently impressed me was how well it stayed in tune even after slamming on the strings during extended jam sessions. The strings do tend to go flat if it is not played for long periods of time, but usually doesn't require more than a minute or two to adjust and get it back up and running. I would definitely gig with this guitar as a backup or if I have a song or two that requires alternate tuning. This is NOT a professional grade guitar, so if you're going in expecting it to have the tone or versatility of a PRS or American Strat, you will be disappointed. However, for the person just learning to play or the intermediate player who is starting to play out live, I would definitely recommend it. I actually might even buy another one, because I love the design and would like to have one with a rosewood fretboard.

I like the design and sounds although I won't know until I have played it a while. Each of the frets have sharp ends along the finger board. This will have to be fixed before I use the guitar!

Worst fret sprout in history .pure junk

Sounds great and not to heavy. Wish it had better tuners but for the price it's good. Nice flawless finish. Doesn't have cheap knobs or pickup selector.

I thought the frets were gonna be bad but there clean, it had some rap on the pick guard. I couldnt get all of it off because its under the volume knob. all in all great looking guitar for the price
