This is a part where getting an OEM part is very important
With the Mustang's computerized monitoring of it's fuel system, I've read repeatedly that the original fuel cap can't just be replaced by any fuel cap. That, if it is, it won't fit right which will lead to continued check engine lights and P0456 engine codes being reported. And the whole reason why I had to replace the original fuel cap was that, every now and then, whatever fuel fumes gathered in the tank during he hot daytime would actually be enough to release my fuel cap so that, when I got that engine code and checked the fuel cap, it was indeed off. Once I got this new Motorcraft fuel cap, I stopped having that problem. And, it's now been several years and the new cap continues to functional without issues. Without popping off or generating that code.

Took care of my engine light error. I think I could have reversed the gas cap gasket as well. But my wife said not be. Cheap with her car. Lol

Form Fit Function & Value!
2005 Ford Mustang 4.0LFit perfectly and clicks as it should - exceptional value - I bought either a customer return or refurb - listing said packaging was bad but looked factory fresh to me, so I paid maybe half of comparable?I’ll update if Musty throws a code but other than not having the BP green dot on, it has a tether and otherwise werx - it’s a gas cap not a flux capacitor!

Great Gas Cap For My 2006 Mustang
I got this product to replace my broken OEM gas cap and this worked as a great fix for my 2006 Mustang. I was a very easy install and took less than five minutes including removal of the other gas cap. I have had this for about two weeks now and have had no issues with it and it hasn't triggered any sensors that is normal with many gas cap replacements.The gas cap feels pretty sturdy, probably just as good as OEM. I have confidence that this gas cap will do its job for a long time with no issues.
