So much helmet, so little money
I like bargains. I dont like cheap quality but I do like it when you find something you would have gladly paid more for but lucked out.Lets start with it is DOT and Snell certified and under $150!InteriorThe interior is plush and was true to size. At first it felt perfect around the area that you measure for your helmet but was very tight at my check bones and I thought it would make me unhappy but only after a few outings it conformed to my face and is perfect. The interior looks like it comes out of a $300 helmet. The chin strap is made of a somewhat softer nylon than I am used to and it is more comfortable.VentsI live in AZ so venting is a must. This has vents at the chin, at the brow and then at the top of the helmet. On a recent chilly morning I tried them all out individually and can tell you they all work as advertised. I have had helmets with a vent or two that and when you opened them you couldnt tell if any change had occurred. Not here. I especially like the ones at the top of the helmet. I have thick hair and when you open those vents you get a noticeable cool breeze on your scalp. Usually air doesn't make it to my scalp through my nest. I think it is aided by the vent holes at the back of the helmet that help to suck air out. With all the vents open it is quite comfortable in there and I was out and about yesterday and it was 97F.Fit and finishYou would think at this price point that it might feel cheesy or look it. Nothing could be further from the truth. Everything clicks into place with authority. The shield the vent detents all snap nicely. There is even a shield lock on one side that I will probably never use but .. its a nice touch. Paint, decals, parts placement .. All of it looks like a far more expensive helmet.LooksWell .. I am in my 50's and wont be posing for a glamour shot any time soon but .. who doesn't want to look good. The helmet is very nice looking and very nice looking on. I channeled Speed Racer for a bit there and was happy doing it.Negatives after about 400 miles are small. It didnt come with a chin curtain. It can be had on Amazon as an add on but non was in the box. It would be nice for colder riding. The only other issue .. which is a me thing .. I hate where the put the snap to retain the strap. I feel stupid mentioning it since most of the helmets I have owed over 40 years of riding didnt have any retention for the loose end of the strap and you just tucked it under your chin but .. if your going to add it .. it is added in a bad spot. For $250 I would have felt I did OK on this helmet and wouldnt have blinked. At under $150 .. get one NOW.

Can’t pass on a snell approved helmet for this price !!
Ok so here goes my honest review of this helmet , let me start by saying I own the shoei rf-sr helmet and will “ compare “ it to this one . I was very skeptical buying a helmet under the 150 dollar range but since it’s snell approved I went ahead and bought it ( now mind you I paid over 400 dollars for the shoei )Comparing it to the shoei when it comes to noise and road noise it is about the same and both I wear in size medium because I’m a 58 head size .Comfort level compared to the shoei is a 10 out of 10 ! The shoei is a 6 out of 10 !! The shoei makes the back of my head hurt from pressure points in the eps foam and the hjc cl17 has to pressure points and does not make my head hurt . So I wear the hjc more now then the shoei .Overall I am very pleased and recommend this helmet and the fact that it’s snell approved you can’t pass on this helmet for the price .

it looks like a 5 star quality for the price
Warning: This review is more for buying any helmet online without trying it on first in person than a rating on the quality of this specific HJC-17 helmet.First, the sizing chart for the HJC-17 helmet is not accurate. I measured very carefully several times and then used the sizing chart to find the appropriate size. It said to buy a medium but when I received the helmet, it was WAY too small.Second, if you do order the wrong size using the chart... and you want to exchange the helmet for one that actually fits, you must pay the entire shipping fee to send the helmet back to Riders Warehouse and then another $8 shipping fee to Riders Warehouse to send you another one out in the exchange. Then you get to hope that the new one fits or you will have do it all over again.Don't get me wrong here, I get Rider's Warehouse not wanting to pick up the shipping on a mistake by the purchaser ordering the wrong size so I'm not blaming them but I do want to warn people here the sizing chart is not correct and to try the helmet on somewhere else first before buying online to avoid the extra costs and the return/exchange hassle. Rider's Warehouse would probably appreciate it too. Finally, as for the helmet itself, it looks like a 5 star quality for the price. The padding looks well made and the finish is good, weight not too heavy and the visibility out the visor is unobstructed. The vents are a very nice feature as well.

Order one size larger
This is a very high quality helmet with both DOT and SNELL ratings. Very unusual for a helmet at this price. The interior is very well padded. Unfortunately, it was so snug I felt like my skull was going to crack. Definitely order one size larger than the chart suggests. I had to return this one for a larger size

Great helmet at a reasonable price! Dot and SNELL approved!
I upgraded from a HJC CS-R1 to this after my motorcycle accident on 6-16-16. My helmet saved my life, so I know the quality isn't a issue. It took a seriously brutal double hit. Unfortunately, the helmet was discontinued, so I went with this after many reviews. Based on the manufactures size chart, I went with a medium. I am borderline small/medium according to the chart for this helmet. My old CR-S1 was a medium, other reviews listed this helmet as running a bit small. I am glad I went with a medium, as it was very snug. Perfect fit after it broke in. A small would have been way to tight. The quality is amazing, best ventilation I have had yet. I have had no issues with fogging, however I have a pin-lock lens just in case! This helmet for me, was much more quiet. For the price, you will not find a better helmet.
