## Description

Worry less about pesky mosquitoes and ticks and spend more time enjoying the outdoors with Repel® brand. Repel® 100 Insect Repellent provides you with up to 10 hours of protection against mosquitoes. This convenient 4-ounce pump spray can be easily stored with whatever gear your family adventure requires. Formulated for severe insect conditions, Repel® 100 Insect Repellent contains 98.11% DEET and repels mosquitoes that may transmit the Zika, West Nile, Dengue and Chikungunya viruses, as well as ticks, gnats, biting flies, chiggers and fleas. DEET has been used as an insect repellent in the United States for more than 50 years. It’s recommended for those spending longer periods of time outdoors, in more severe conditions. Recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for effective, long-lasting protection against mosquitoes, DEET is also an effective repellent for ticks. DEET-based insect repellents are available in a wide variety of Repel formulas, including aerosols, sprays and wipes.

Review: This is the real-deal, no-B.S., DEET formula that gets the mosquitos off of you. - This is the real-deal, no-B.S., gets the mosquitos off of you, DEET formula that is what I use when it's time to get the mosquitos, gnats, no-see-ums, and sand flies/biting midges away from you. For many years now I have been using a popular plant-based lemon-eucalyptus insect repellent that is DEET-free, due to wanting a less-toxic, more "natural" alternative, to DEET-based sprays. My experience with the lemon-eucalyptus formula is that it can be effective (and is great smelling), but only for a few minutes, and I need to reapply the lemon- eucalyptus compound constantly, every ten or maybe even five minutes, for it to stay effective against the flying pests that are out there. In 2023 I wound up doing several months of summer work in a remote mountainous area in the western United States. Though usually a dry climate, that was a banger moisture year and the flying insects were atrocious. I initially began using my preferred lemon-eucalyptus oil but found it almost completely ineffective due to the sheer volume of flying pests and insects I was getting swarmed and bitten by, each night at camp. That summer I switched back to DEET and went with the Repel 100. The situation was so serious, I was not going to mess around with partial blends or a dilute DEET. I wanted 100% strength/power/efficacy. It had been a few years since I had used Repel and Repel DEET-containing products but upon picking some of this up and applying it, the scent and slightly oily texture immediately brought me back to childhood memories of campfires, camping, ball games, and being out in cool summer evenings slathered in Repel's DEET spray, munching on marshmallows in plumes of campfire smoke. Fast forward back to 2023 up there in the mosquito-infested mountains of the rural west, and this Repel DEET-based spray worked when the lemon-eucalyptus oil would not. Once applied, the clouds of some of the largest mosquitos I had ever seen, stayed away from me. Since that summer, I have been back on the DEET. I still use the lemon-eucalyptus but I keep this Repel 100 DEET formula on hand just incase I decide to head up to the mountains or out on a camping trip that's going to take me to a place where there might be a heavier flying insect load that I am generally exposed to at home. Please note that DEET is highly effective as a tick repellent. With the dramatic increase in tick-borne diseases in North America over the past two decades, Repel 100 is a good idea and effective at keeping ticks off of you. I use Permethrin on my clothes but Permethrin cannot be applied directly to the skin so that's where the DEET comes in. Lemon-eucalyptus oil also can serve as a tick repellent but as I've noted above, my experience indicates that lemon-eucalyptus compounds just don't have the "oomph" necessary to keep insects away and off of you with the intensity and duration that DEET does. Stay safe out there, everybody.
Review: Works Really Well – Great for Outdoor Work - Picked up this Repel 100 insect repellent, and it works really well. We actually sprayed it onto a felt pad we use when working on vehicles out in fields, mainly to help keep ticks and other bugs off while laying on the ground. So far it’s done a great job. Definitely seems strong enough for serious outdoor use where mosquitoes, ticks, gnats, and chiggers are a problem. The spray bottle works fine, and a little goes a long way. Overall, really happy with it. If you spend time working or hiking outdoors where bugs are bad, this is strong stuff and works great 👍

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is 100% Deet dangerous?**
A: According to the EPA, the answer is "No." (see http://www2.epa.gov/insect-repellents/deet ). Of course, all absolute claims should be taken with a grain of salt. And the state of NY has put out what seems to be a bit more reasoned assessment ( https://www.health.ny.gov/publications/2737/ ). That said, I have used (and continue to use) as close to 100% DEET products as I could find for over 40 years (30 years active duty infantry, 9 years in a wildlife agency, years of backpacking/hiking) and have developed no external or internal health issues. I use this because 1) many areas I operated in (Alaska, Thailand, Honduras, southern United States, Haiti, Panama, etc.) were almost literally unlivable if you couldn't ward off the insects and 2) because even more areas include insect-borne disease (Malaria, Dengue, West Nile, etc.). West Nile Virus activity exists in all but 6 of the lower 48 states and Dengue Fever (or its vector mosquito) is confirmed in Florida, Texas, Arizona, California and Hawaii. Lyme Disease and Encephalitis are also insect-borne diseases. As global warming evolves, other previously tropical insect-borne diseases will probably show up in the US. This is a cost-benefit analysis only you can do for you and your family. My answer rather arrogantly assumes you are talking about using this in the United States. If you are living/operating in more tropical areas outside the US, then it is really a matter of what type of personal insect control you are going to use, not whether to do so. Hope this at least helps reduce the ambiguity.

**Q: Is this an aerosol or just a spray? Need to know if this is allowed in the bags for international travel please?**
A: This is a spray. It is not a pressurized container. The product works very well. It takes very little bug juice to give you protection. I spray a little bit in the palm of my hand, then rub my hands together to give them a coating of the repellent. I then rub the areas I want to protect with my repellent coated hands. I may do this a couple of times a day based on how much I am sweating. Make sure you don't get it in your eyes or nose. This does irritate those areas.

**Q: What does it smell like?**
A: It doesn't smell like anything thank heavens.

**Q: Can kids use it?**
A: Repellents with up to 30% DEET are safe for kids over 2 months old. Over 30% DEET doesn't protect any better, but does last longer. So get something with 30% DEET and reapply every 2 hours.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Deet Works
*by S***G on April 25, 2026*

There is a reason all the other insect repellents say compared to Deet. As part of my permethrin, picaridin and deet trio it is integral to reducing my daily vulnerability. I live in the wayback mountains and the tiny ticks and chiggers are far worse than the beard, coyotes, mountain lions, bobcats, rattlesnakes, copperheads and cotton mouth water moccasins. Deet works! I won’t even reduce my rating because of the leaking. Every deet spray package seems to leak. Repel is no exception. Their quality and potency is high. I have better small spray containers I can use. It’s the effectiveness of the deet that matters.
