The Victory: Part One (Gaunt’s Ghosts Book 1) - Kindle edition by Abnett, Dan. Download it once and read it on your Kindle device, PC, phones or tablets. Use features like bookmarks, note taking and highlighting while reading The Victory: Part One (Gaunt’s Ghosts Book 1). Review: another great read - I blazed through this book. These are all excellent and some of the best sci fi I’ve read recently. Love the characters and the action and the story. It’s just sad to be getting near the end. Review: Nice change of pace. - Loved this whole arc and the twist it had on previous novels. Decent amount of spooky, intrigue and more. Read it!

Well Written
I’ve read a lot of solid fantasy books over many many years, but none quite as well written as this one. People can tell good stories that are fun to read, but this is incredibly well done.

Another GREAT read of Gaunt and his Ghosts
The 4th omnibus collection of Gaunt's Ghosts. Great read, continuation of the story arcs with more short stories to further flesh out our favorite characters. Looking forward to the sequel omnibus!

Amazing
Abnett's ability to cover both micro- and macro-level stories, while focusing on the interpersonal relationships and long-running characters, is what makes him one of the best writers I've ever had the pleasure of reading.

The best yet
I've read all of the Gaunts Ghosts series, rarely does a series get better after the 3rd or 4th in a series This is the exception to the rule. Bravo! I devoured this book in one sitting. I'll wait a month or two and re-read it slowly, savoring every page. Bookworm bookworm whatcha gonna do, watcha gonna do when this books done for you?

Another excellent volume in this great series.
What can I say? It's Gaunt's Ghosts. There is no better book series in 40K.

A must read for fans of the Ghosts
Outstanding storyline As always Mr Annette does a magnificent job of spinning a tale of action and adventure with characters I've known and loved for years and bringing in new blood that keeps the Ghosts living and fighting for the Imperium

Each book is genuinely different from the last, and while the intensity is certainly less in this omnibus it makes up for how the stories are told and what missions the Ghosts are undertaking. Finally, we get to meet Space Marines as well and the short story about Mkoll, in the end, is simply hilarious. Even the vaunted Space Marines are no match for the wily Tanith Scout.

The Omnibus starts well with Blood Pact, a reversal of the Traitor General storyline works well. You get more small scale action - a good break from the larger scale action now the Tabitha 1st has Belladon troopers bolstering the ranks. It also introduces a couple of new characters and revisits an older one with the promise of further development. Salvation's Reach takes us back to full unit action with shipboard combat and boarding actions to keep things lively as well as some ship to ship combat. Spoilers: while it is difficult to find fault with Blood Pact, Salvations Reach signals the beginning of some less enjoyable arcs which feel more forced than organic. The careful development of Merrt and his journey towards redemption takes a sudden leap forward with the intervention of a space marine but it feels quite hollow when he is killed off later in the story. His death feels like an abandoned plot line more than a natural conclusion - the one consolation being a "heroic death" alongside Dorden. It still feels like he got short changed. Dorden's demise could be either a reminder that no character is invulnerable or a convenient way to retire him from the story. The new Verghast troops are a good fit, as is Commissar Luna. But Jakub Wilder, the Belladon band and Blenner feel like a wasted opportunity. Gone is Blenner's backbone from Blood Pact and before - a lot of effort seems devoted to making him thoroughly unlikable to the point at which his role as a commissary becomes unconvincing (even a cushy ceremonial posting would require the ability to command some respect). The posting of Wilder and the band to the Tabitha is also a stretch. A combat unit like the Tabitha headed into their classified mission - seems unlikely a band would get added, it also seems like Wilder requested this but Gaunt didn't stop it?! I assumed we were in for either the Belladon troops showing their true mettle or developing them as a combat force. Neither happens, Wilder instead quickly falls in with Didi Gendler (a contemptible little toad I don't recall hearing of before), Costin (who suddenly reappears as a drunkard despite sobering up and showing reform after the Raglon incident) and Meryn (who has gone from ruthless but effective to caricature bad guy - evil moustache included). It isn't going to end well. Felyx Chass. What to say? At the 11th hour Abnett decides Gaunt needs a child to give the character some more depth? If so it doesn't work. I'd like to say this develops better in the following books but it doesn't. As for the bodyguard, I struggled with the sudden passionate affair between her and Gaunt but not as much as I struggled with Curth's sudden pettiness and unprofessional behaviour in response. Good stuff? Nabbing and the Suicide Kings works well as does the careful use of Space Marines. I was however puzzled by the false flag operation. The strike is meant to sow discord between the Anarch and the Archon by making Sek think he has been attacked by Gaur. But aside from the Space Marines leaving an ancient Adeptus Astartes craft embedded in the roof of a hangar and presumably numerous ghost corpses/remains unrecovered there is the matter of several hundred/thousand enemy troop witnesses (not fprgetting a whole battleship).

The reversal of the geron mission and the thrill of seeing my favorite regiment work with a variety of imperial forces + the new cast members bring some interesting proteintiapnfor the future
