Good enough, don't expect it to last forever
I'm 6'1 and i weigh around 340 pounds, so finding a belt is something of a challenge for me. With more traditional belt models i need anywhere from size 48 to 54 waist and the crappy walmart ones will often die after two months, the shortest i've ever gotten out of one being two weeks. I found slidebelts a few years back and they are everything other belts are not, these are perfect for the big and tall crowd, these belts last anywhere from six months to two years for me, which may be nothing for all the skinny guys out there but for a big and tall guy like me this is a huge improvement.I've had issues with slidebelts in the past, but they usually only show up after a few months. Sure the buckles break after awhile or occaisionally the way the buckle digs into the leather sometimes causes it to tear it up and lose grip and honestly the leather DOES eventually wear down, cracks and other imperfections form and the whole thing needs to be replaced just from day to day wear. At the same time though, these things only cost 40 bucks, you can only expect so much for 40 bucks in this day and age. I definitely think the few times my belt made it like two years was well BEYOND the expected warranty, i just buy another one when they wear down. The last time i think they offered to replace a buckle that broke but it's so much hassle to return stuff through amazon sometimes that i don't bother, especially if i was just going to buy another one anyways. It's not the PERFECT solution, but as i said, for 40 bucks it's going to be some of the best value you'll find. That said, every time i buy a new slidebelt i always get a different buckle and different type of belt and i'm starting to suspect they aren't all made at the same place to the same standards, this is probably part of why some people get an amazing experience and some don't. The distressed checkered leather seemed to last MUCH longer than the white leather did, for example. That said, i don't know how slidebelt compares to mission belt as i've never had a mission belt to compare it to, however i did once use a cheaper ratcheting belt that hooked into the ratchets differently and the cheaper stuff was literally painful to use and VERY difficult to adjust while wearing when tightened. Part of what makes slidebelt great is how easy it is to adjust even while sitting down.

So close to being perfect
Slidebelts are the best belts I've ever owned. And I'm not normally a fan of braided / ratchet type belts. A year or two ago I found that my belts were always tearing near the eyelets. Maybe it is the fact that I'm 10-15 pounds heavier than I used to be, or maybe it was the fact that I like a tight belt. Whatever the cause, I was having to buy a new belt every 3-5 months. In terms of durability, Slidebelts have exceeded my expectations. My first one finally gave out after about a year of use. Since I had a positive experience, this is my second slide belt. Here is my breakdown of pros & cons:PROS:- More durable in my case than any other belt I've owned- Cut-to-fit. I start out a little long and if starts to wear near the buckle, I just snip it off and re-insert the belt part.- Size adjustment is pretty granular, so you can get just the right fit when tightening it around your waist.- Can also buy just the leather portion without the buckle when your old one does finally fail.CONS:- The finish on my old gunmetal buckle started to chip, but since I never tuck in my shirt, I really didn't care.- On my old belt, the latch that holds in the leather would occasionally flip open causing the buckle to detatch and the belt to come apart. But the latch feels much more secure so far on the new belt. Not sure if that will fade over time. With the old belt I resorted to putting 2 drops of super glue in there to help hold it together. It worked, but when I needed to remove it, it required a little extra force to get open. It was an acceptible workaround for me with the old belt, but I'm hoping my new one doesn't have the same issue.- I have occasionally nudged the release lever while doing various things which causes the belt to loosen a bit. (maybe 2-3 times over the year)The cons certainly are not enough to keep me from purchasing this product, but it was enough to deduct one star.

Cool idea but didn't hold up.
After using these for four months I have to say that they weren't worth it for me. About every four or five days the leather is stripped out where the buckle grips it. I have been steadily cutting the belts down a half inch at a time. I switched to the second belt recently after the first became too short. I'm considering drilling through the buckle and belt to try rivets or screws to secure it but the leather of the first belt was splitting as well so I don't know how much time that will buy me.Another issue, just annoying is the tendency of the belt to slip while moving. The easy adjustability without constantly having to fix slippage was actually one of the main reasons I went with this belt over the canvas belts i had been using. I adjust it a bit less than the canvas but still have to every few minutes when moving around. For me the slight decrease in frequency in messing with my belt isn't worth the current $50 asking price and DEFINITELY isn't worth the $75 I paid for each belt.Original:I've been using a canvas belt for a long time for their finer adjustment. Tried this because it looks good and the ratchets won't slip while walking. Just started using it so I can't vouch for longevity but construction feels really solid. The buckle isn't some thin-pressed material, it's.... beefy. I also really like the belt itself. That it's designed to be cut/adjusted is an interesting feature. Great for people losing weight and good for everyone else to set the length to their preference. The only improvement IMHO would be to increase the length of the ratchet teeth band so you could have a wider range of sizes after cutting. I haven't measured but it looks to be around 4".
