Norman Rockwell's famous Saturday Evening Post covers, the Four Freedoms he painted during the years of World War II, and his depictions of American towns, families, and traditions are all represented in this concise volume. Avidly collected by legendary filmmakers Steven Spielberg and George Lucas, the works offer a picture of America that we all continue to believe in, a world of hope and humanity. Fred Bauer writes about Rockwell's message of optimism and the artist's faith in America and its people, in a forthright and sympathetic text complemented by numerous Rockwell favorites in all their warmth and color. Bauer visits Stockbridge, Massachusetts, and Arlington, Vermont, talking to the people who lived with Rockwell and posed for his anecdotal pictures, the people about whom the artist said, "If you are interested in the characters you draw and understand them and love them, why, the people who see your pictures are bound to feel the same way.” This revised edition of this classic volume enables us to rediscover Rockwell’s unique understanding of American greatness. Review: Hours of enjoyment - Wow! This book is great. There is so much information along with the photos you can enjoy this book alone or it is also the perfect book to sit and look at with family. It's great to leave out on the coffee table as a conversation starter Review: Beautiful Book! - I have loved Norman Rockwell's artwork for over 50 years. It shows the values our families and country stood for and maybe we could all use a little more of today. I have the book sitting on my coffee table and it is the perfect size. I read it cover to cover when I first received it. The pages are heavy and glossy. The prints are amazing in their detail. The author gives you some history to go along with the artwork such as why and when they were done, a little info on the models used, and tells you how he researched the book. This is a gorgeous book and a must have if you love Norman Rockwell.

Great book for 3 bucks!
The backstories about the paintings done when Norman lived in Arlington, Vermont were quite entertaining. I couldn't believed I picked this book up for 3 bucks. When I'm done with this book, I'm donating to local library to be put in circulation.

Words from another professional artist.
I really love this book and all the images of Rockwell's paintings. Thank you for your prompt mailing. These two books are an inspiration for me, being that I am a professional artist. I may be hired soon to do covers for a catalog that features find clothing and products on the East Coast.

A Wonderful Book
This book is great. The author talks to Norman Rockwell's widow several months after Mr. Rockwell's death and her words are enlightening. The author travels to two of Mr. Rockwells home towns and speaks with people who posed for many of the pictures. It was heart warming reading this book while looking at the nearly 100 pictures the author describes in detail. Paula McLeish

Who the f... is Norman Rockwell?

Could be much better!
The quality of the illustrations could be much better. The colours are sometimes rather grainy and one comes away from it somewhat disappointed. Some of them look like they have been printed from low res images. If you are a Rockwell fan like me, I would suggest you give it a miss. This isn't the nice collector's edition it's pretending to be.
