Innovation and tradition share equally deep roots at SCARPA, a muti-generational, family-owned business whose headquarters and manufacturing facilities are in the same region of northern Italy where it was founded in 1938. SCARPA builds performance footwear for climbing, hiking, skiing, mountaineering, trail-running and other outdoor pursuits. Aside from being the Italian word for "shoe," SCARPA is an acronym for Societa Calzaturiera Asolana Riunita Pedemontana Anonima (Associated Shoe Manufacturing Company of the Asolo Mountain Area).

Not really trail runners, but a great shoe nonetheless
Prior to ordering these shoes, I have a pair of Scarpa hiking boots that I really have liked wearing. So I knew what size would work best for me. Not sure why these are called trail running shoes, as to me they are more of a walking type shoe. They would work well with a pair of jeans or khakis, and one reason I bought them was for an upcoming trip to Italy. They should serve well for prolonged days of walking and yet look good enough that I do not feel I am wearing a running type shoe. Required minimal break in and were comfortable right out of the box. Just a couple of hours of wear to overcome the initial stiffness and they are good to go.

Looks great but was also concerned about ventilation
Looks great but was also concerned about ventilation, when comparedto the Salomon Speedcross 3's I've had for a few years now (which Ireplace every 6 months, so I thought I'd try these to switch things upa bit.The outer sole is definitely a harder density than the Salomons, which it's very likely to last longer, but doesn't have the deep "cleat"echelons... but I know these will hold up well in rough terrain with thestiffer uppers. If I had a choice, I'd stick with the Salomons as they have a softer andmore comfortable sole and support.

Solidly built with nice style.
This is a pleasantly styled hiking or approach shoe. It is not a "runner" as indicated in the Amazon description. It has technical aspects but is also a fine casual shoe. Fit is normal width, and I believe true to numbered size. I would not recommend this shoe if you truly need wide fit. The tongue is gusseted, which may help keep out water and dust when hiking, but it also serves to keep the tongue in place and comfortable over the top of the foot. This is my second similar pair of Scarpa approach shoes, they usually last me a couple years of casual and hiking use.

Perfect fit - like a glove - right from the box. Laces permit adjustments in tightness so you can "customize" fit from toe to ankle. Very light-weight and super comfortable. look cool too!

Needs more arch support and better treads
Love the full leather treatment. But I wouldn't exactly call this a "trail" running shoe. Treads aren't up to mud-covered inclines. Could use some more arch support.

Good fit
Haven't had the chance to run or hike in them but the fit is good.
