It's designed to clean off lint & soft residue that it picks up from records. It's a product that has been available since the 1970's or 1980's and works well to keep your stylus clean. But I doubt it would remove rust. **Q: Instead of cleaning my records, can I just let the stylus clean them and then clean my stylus?** A: No, this product just gets dirt off the needle. When I buy used records I wash them in slightly warm water with ivory dish soap. I let them dry in a dish strainer. Before I play a record and put some alcohol on a paper towel and wipe the record as the turntable starts turning. I've collected records for 45 years and these things have worked for me. Dust will get on the needle when records are played. Based on what old records are made of scrapings or oil from the grooves may come off. In the early 1960s RCA was putting some type of oil in the grooves. Records older than that are sometimes made of something much different than record vinyl of recent decades. **Q: Can I use this cleaner for my Nagaoka stylus?** A: I believe you can use this cleaner on any stylus. It does a great job. My Benz stylus and cartridge retail for $1,000. **Q: Is this safe to use with the adhesives that bond the diamond stylus to the cantilever?** A: Two things: Via email, I asked Audio-Technica the direct question - is 607a ok to use with their "ART1000" cartridge? If you’re in need of a reliable stylus cleaner, this one is worth considering despite its premium cost. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great product from a trusted and well respected brand *by V***I on August 20, 2020* I have been using a dry brush and drop into a zerodust gel cleaner exclusively for years, as alcohol and other harsh chemicals typically used in liquids can over time cause the adhesive holding the diamond stylus tip to the cantilever to break down. As I've thought about this lately I concluded it would probably take much longer to cause a problem as the stylus itself eventually needs replacement anyway. I also went back to moving magnet carts a few years ago, where the stylus is user replaceable, and decided to occasionally use a liquid product a few times a week. Ingredients are simple enough being primarily water and alcohol. I like that Audio-Technica makes the ingredients known, unlike some off brand that may not. I am a fan of AT cartridges as well, and trust their expertise in the industry. So my choice for this product came down to my trust in and loyalty to the Audio-Technica brand to properly care for my VM 540 ML stylus. Don't use too much and be sure to remove all excess after dipping by wiping the brush on the bottles edge, as the instructions say. Comes in a nice small brown glass bottle as well, a small detail but even their fluid screams quality in the packaging. Made in Japan, well packed without leaks. My only complaint is to Amazon distribution for continually shipping very small packages in ridiculously oversized boxes and envelopes. I wish they would address this logistical issue. It would help the environment and Amazon's bottom line.
