Does this unit need an extension cord to charge?

It comes wit a short 4' 2 prong cord that plugs into the back (male), you can use an extension 3 prong cord also. I recent;y bought this unit because I had purchased a JNC660B for work that performed beyond my expectations. It was used left uncharged in the heat of AZ for months and several times. Over a 5 year period it had few charges left in 100+ degree heat and is still going strong.

Jnc770r - can i store this unit in my vehicle laying on its back or side? will the battery leak when stored in these positions?

I have mine stored on it's back and have experienced no issues. I have not encountered any battery leakage storing it in this position.

When you use the jump box to start a vehicle does the running vehicle in turn charge the jump box?

No, once you jump it you remove it from the battery. I charge it with the outlet cord. I have been able to get a few jump starts with a single charge. It is great as back up while boating and Jeeping.

Is the battery in the jnc770r the newer agm type (absorbent glass matt) technology ?

Yes, the 770 and 660 have sealed lead-acid AGM batteries. The 311 and 318 have lithium batteries (which I'd think is more "new technology" than AGM).
