Ray Charles: Essential Piano Songs

Time - that’ll what it takes to get tunes on the keyboard. This has got plenty of good tunes. I’ve got to find the time. (spending less time looking at screens👍)

I bought this book, as I had always been a fan of Ray Charles and was looking for piano music of his I could play and perform as background music. However the problem I found with this book, was that it is not so much a piano solos book but transcriptions of the parts and so once the initial piano intros and the odd solo passages are played through the rest of the piano part is arranged quite simply as accompaniment and in many cases playing exactly what is written here just wouldn't work well as background music. However it does appear to be quite accurate transcriptions of the parts individually, which are interweaved at times into the piano part (such as sax solos etc) and so I would recommend it for study purposes. Also I still found it useful to follow and improvise from to create more of a piano solo arrangement that would be acceptable as background music. Overall, if your looking for more advanced piano solo arrangements of Ray Charles' songs, I wouldn't recommend buying this, but if you would happy with basic - intermediate level arrangements and to get a better understanding of the parts transcribed, then this is the book for you.
