This is a V1.5 ELM 327 chip NOT a V2.1.
The product description is a lie. It contains an older version of the ELM 327 chip, and so some (uncommon) ODB2 protocols are not supported. That said, the 1.5 version isn't bad, I'm just upset that they lied. This does work reasonably well for me in a '05 Mini Cooper.

Item was defective upon arrival. The bluetooth connection with an android smartphone worked fine, but the device failed to establish communication with the ECU when tried on 3 separate vehicles. Do yourself a favor and spend the money on a product with better quality control.

Take Care With The Included Disc
As installed in a 2005 Dodge Ram and paired with a Joying head unit running Torque Pro, it simply doesn't work for the presumed intent. Oh, it paired and was recognized, but it will not interface with the ECU. This seems to be a known issue with these translucent blue ELM 327 units. Interestingly, Microsoft Security Essentials found something on the included disc; no need to really say what, but suffice to be cautious. There is not telling what else is on there. In fairness, I noted that other like models have the same disc with the wall-eyed panda label. Will this work for other applications/vehicles? Perhaps, but this one certainly didn't support "all OBD 2 protocols" in my case. It's not worth seeking a refund on a low-cost purchase.

Has its good and bad points
Over the years I have purchased many of these units from various suppliers and I can assure you that they are not all equal, even the more expensive ones. Some have worked, Some are just dead on arrival. Do not use the disks that come with these.A note that may be of some help, there are a lot of variables on how this and other units work with your vehicle. Such as type of Vehicle, type of phone or tablet, various kinds of apps to use with this product. Just make sure that you spend the time to set up your Vehicle in your app and that the phone will bring up the unit in bluetooth.Keep in mind also, that if using a cell phone or tablet that you have it on a car charger as these units drain the phone/tablet battery very quickly mainly because of many functions that are activated while in use such as bluetooth, gps, some other functions based on the Phone/ tablet in use.Trial and error as some Vehicles do not (or will not) allow some of the functions that can be obtained by a GOOD reader.

DO NOT BUY!!! Chinese knockoff
Do not buy! this is a knockoff chinese part that does not do anything! There are good ELM 327 products out there, but this is just a cheap piece of plastic with blinking lights that does not perform as advertised.Tried with numerous vehicles and numerous devices.Don't go the cheap route with these or you will just waste your time and money as well as increase stress levels when you realize you got scammed. There are plenty of youtube vids comparing these knockoffs to the real ones.My advice is to buy the Kiwi 2 Bluetooth OBD2 adapter. its like 60 bucks on sale and works perfectly

Probably will not work for older vehicles; definitely did not work with vehicles using OBD-II J-series protocols (Chevrolet).
They need to list which protocols this adapter supports. It works with Torque Pro almost automatically with a Sony Experia phone and Nexus 7 tablet and supports fast read mode for both devices on a 2008 BMW 3 series (ISO/CAN), but doesnt work at all on a 2006 Chevrolet truck (J-series protocol). IIRC from other people, they cut corners on this one and don't support all protocols (just seemingly support newer protocols). Buyer beware. I bought another one identical to this except for slight price and packaging, and the results were the same.
