Update: Initially had some issues with my coffee maker, but the customer service was very friendly and sorted it out quickly. I bought this one after I managed to break yet another glass press and got tired of looking for a replacement that I would drop again sooner or later. The Coffee Gator Coffee Maker is "just" an ordinary French press and I guess there is only so much you can expect it to do, but surprisingly I find it's often the simplest products that are plagued by poor design choices and annoying flaws. Not this one. It might be pricier than your average French press, but it's extremely robust and feels like a well-made quality product in your hands. So if you break 3 glass presses per year like me, the price point becomes relative. In the end I also like the idea of supporting a company that focuses on one thing they are passionate about and tries to do them right. Oh, and their customer service is very responsive and friendly, too. The only thing is that the small coffee canister it comes with is too tiny to be of any practical use, but I guess you can use it for sugar or something else. At least it's pretty, and it's free. Excellent product in every way. My canister did not arrive and COFFEE GATOR were quick to send me one. 10/10 for customer service. I have followed the coffee making suggestions which came with the product and the results are amazing. After using a large variety of cafetieres for a few decades, I didn't think I could learn anything new, but alas, the coffee IS better, smoother. The coffee remains very hot even after an hour. In terms of ability to hold heat, this is the best insulating cafetiere I have ever owned. I was also reluctant to buy an American product as my experience of coffee in the USA left a lot to be desired (I have been to the USA hundreds of times as I was an aircrew member for 30 years). It is robust and heavier than some other cafetieres but I do not mind that as I like the sturdy feel of it. Design wise, it is beautiful. I went for the very dark grey. Love the alligator logo. The Gator Cafetiere is an outstanding product. I know it will serve me for many years to come.

Thought I had left review, amazon yet to put it in, don't know why. So here it is. Arrived on time, despite delivery man dropping through side window to entrance way and hitting the floor 5 ft below, NO damage whatsoever, 1st surprise. 2nd suprise, opening box cafetiere looks as good as pictures suggest. 3rd surprise, once I put hot water in to warm metal inner, then put coffee in and waiting 3 mins, poured(nice smooth pour) into mug, lovely taste, hardly any sediment left, 2nd cup 25 mins. later, STILL hot, perfect, just the way I like it. Easy cleaned and ready for next mug. Sturdy, stylish, produces coffee the way it should do, hot and full of flavour. What more do you need? Highly recommend.

This is a lovely cafetiere with a double filter - easy to use, keeps coffee hot, and looks good. Until now. After years of a stainless steel model I wanted to try this as it looks so smart in dark grey - it's tactile to hold and l loved the look of it but after one month of use (and careful cleaning) the coating is starting to come off at the base and I suspect that'll work its way up. So knocked one star off for that, otherwise an excellent piece of kit - but next time I'll go back to stainless steel, despite the fingerprint problem!

Was looking for something solid that would help avoid the recurrent breakage with the glass versions. This is the perfect fix. Solid construction, great fimter, helpful graduations internally and makes bloody good coffee!!

its a fn great cafetiere. makes very smooth black coffee for its price. hand wash it in warm water as i do & it'll last for ever.

Gator cafetière, is well designed has a good weight and filter system appears faultless so far! Coffee keeps hot for well past the steeping time, haven’t tested heat retention as I drink coffee too quickly. Although the Gator brand is pricier than some - it’s definitely worth the extra cost as looks fabulous, holds up to 1ltr and so far appears very robust. Cleans very well although haven’t tried in dishwasher as am afraid logo will disappear. The free supplied pot, presumably for beans is way too small; however is made from solid glass with a metal and plastic lid. I would definitely recommend this filter press to any serious coffee lover. My coffee tastes every bit as good when compared to my neighbours very expensive well known brands! The process is a little longer on the brewing side and so much quieter. Coupled with a manual electronic hand frother, the Gator comes up trumps.

Old review is below and pictures removed. Coffee Gator has completely taken care of my damaged unit and is sending a replacement. I suspect Amazon's QA let it slip through the cracks, and not Coffee Gator. I will update this review when I finally make some coffee- but this product deserves 5 stars alone just based on the customer service interactions. They make a quality product and stand by it 100%. ============================================================================================= Possibly got an overstock Item, possibly preused. Mine arrived with many scratches and gouges in the paint, on both the French press and accessory stoage container. The box looked preopened. Design preference wise, the screen makes an unpleasant sound against the inside wall, probably not a functionally bad thing, just sounds bad. Also the paint feels like sandpaper, it feels unpleasant to touch. The pictures make it look smooth. I'm sure it functionally works well, many people here like it, and I bought it based on those reivews, just not the best QC. This could be an issue on Amazon's end and not the manufacturer. Despite the scratches and screen rubbing noise I'd probably keep it if the unit felt good to touch, which it doesn't, feels like sandpaper. They should make the paint similar to the Klean Kanteen bottles, thick and smooth, they could even make it matter finish instead of glossy. I really wanted to like this, but unfortunately I'll be returning this. I'm sure it makes good coffee though.

I purchased this stainless press for an 18 day trip to the Philippines. Since everyone has those electric water kettles, I was able to easily have fresh delicious coffee everyday with this press. Even the last three days at Okada Manila I was able to make fresh coffee since they also had an electric kettle in the room, although a smaller hotel sized one than the standard residential size i had at my relative's house. I brought enough coarse French press ground French roast coffee for 18 days in a couple ziplock bags and it thankfully made it through security at SFO along with the press in my carry-on. TSA simply swabbed the outside of the ziplock with some sort of test solution. They didn't open the ziplocks or stir the coffee grounds. I heard that folks who put coffee in check-in luggage usually find it all over their luggage when unpacking, so I opted for carry-on transport, with the worst option being TSA making me throw it away at the checkpoint. Better than my clothes in luggage smelling like coffee. The press didn't give a weird taste to the coffee as other presses were complained about in Amazon reviews. I skipped warming the press up first, per the instructions, since I didn't want to waste relative's filtered water they pay for in the Philippines. I just added my 6-8 tablespoons of grounds to the press and filled to the fill mark inside with boiling water, stirred the grounds, and started my iPhone timer for 4 minutes with Siri. Coffee was great every time and relatives got to enjoy it, as well. I started putting in only 6 tablespoons because 8 was honestly just too strong. But, 8 tablespoons is certainly a great tasting cup of coffee, as well. The mesh press fit the inside diameter just fine and no grounds were ever present in the poured coffee. The press' handle did not break off like some similar designed presses on Amazon other reviewer's complained about, and the press plunger action was smooth and consistent every time. The construction of the press is solid and it didn't dent at all during my trip. I'm not sure how long it keeps coffee hot as I didn't want the coffee to over-steep, so I poured the remaining coffee out into a large measuring cup I brought after filling my own carrafe, so it wasn't too bitter. The press is easy to clean. I only wish I also brought a long spoon to get the grounds out of the bottom of the press as I only had a small tea stirring spoon to work with when I got to the hotel at the end of my trip. My hand was just small enough to fit inside the press to get to the bottom to scrape out the grounds. My large measuring cup, the press, the ground coffee, and a tablespoon measuring spoon was a great kit to bring. The included glass travel jar fits 8 tablespoons of grounds. I brought it filled with grounds but didn't need to use it as I didn't go on any side trips and had access to my ziplock full of coffee grounds the whole trip. But, it's a nice travel jar, although not airtight, since the coffee smell made it out easily. I did test my press several times before packing for my trip to ensure it worked well. Overall, this is a great press, especially for someone who's trying a French press for the first time, and it definitely is a great travel press model.
