I just did a tape last night. But there is a really annoying feedback sound. My guess is the noise isolation is very low quality on this unit so the micro USB port is causing some feedback noise to be captured with the recording. If you are wanting to purchase this for recording I wouldn't recommend. Listening on my Bose headphones directly from the unit without the usb plugged in doesn't have the same feedback noise. But if I plug in the usb it starts. **Q: I like the fact of direct connectabiity with a pc, but may one also just record (in mp3 format) to a flash drive, then later do the editing on the pc?** A: Sorry, I don’t have an answer to that. I couldn’t get my computer to recognize it. **Q: What is the ironing surface made of--metal or plastic? Is it solid or ventilated?** A: The underside is of white plastic, punched with holes for ventilation every inch (i.e. a square inch would have a hole at each corner.)
