What size locusts should I feed my reptile?

As a rule, feed locusts no longer than the width of your reptile’s head, or the gap between its eyes. Our sizes run from hatchlings suitable for juveniles and smaller geckos, right through to adults for bearded dragons, monitors and larger lizards.

Do I need to gut load or dust my locusts?

Yes dust with a calcium or multivitamin supplement. This passes the goodness straight on to your reptile and helps prevent deficiencies.

Why feed live locusts rather than crickets?

Locusts are quiet, don’t smell, and are far less likely to nip your reptile. They climb rather than hide, so they stay visible and encourage natural hunting behaviour, and they offer more meat per insect than a cricket of the same size.

How should I keep my locusts once they arrive?

Keep locusts warm, dry and well ventilated at around 25-30°C, in a tub with plenty of climbing space. Feed fresh greens such as cabbage, carrot or grass. Never refrigerate locusts; unlike mealworms, the cold will quickly kill them.
