Understanding Islamic Finance (The Wiley Finance Series)

The ultimate guide for those who are seriously interested in learning about the subject. Muhammad Ayub not only covers different contract/financing methods - which you can find in ANY Islamic Finance book - but what differentiates this book from others is that he also covers issues regarding each contract type, both ideological as well as practical. While there are other more beginner-friendly books for people who are only seeking a casual understanding, if you want to seriously learn about the subject, this is an excellent place to start.

I have conventional finance background, and this is my first book on this subject. I believe this is an excellent book to cover the subject, and it should be a good reference for any professional who seeks understanding of Islamic financing. I have one small comment, I wish the author included (as well) the Arabic script of the Qura'an phrases in his book. I found myself on several occasions mapping the English translation into the Arabic phrase one I am familiar with.

While I found the information about Islamic Finance very useful and I use the book as reference for work, I find the author to be quite close minded and misleading with his facts when comparing conventional banking, insurance with Islamic versions. I recommend this book as a reference for Islamic Finance, but not as unbiased book discussing a different financial system.

Muhammad Ayub provides a thorough report on the major economic and political ramifications of Islamic finance, now practiced in more than 75 countries. This system follows specific, religion-grounded financial policies. For instance, it accommodates Riba, the Islamic prohibition of certain kinds of gains, including interest. Ayub makes it clear that Islamic finance, backed by billions in petrodollars, could come to compete with Western capitalist practices, which he roundly criticizes. His book is simultaneously academic, religious, legal, political and economic (as well as being rhetorical at times, with some challenging long and winding sentences). He also states some apparently opinion-based observations as facts, often with no references, but he knows his subject area and he sounds authoritative throughout, though you may differ with his political viewpoint. getAbstract finds this book critically important for anyone whose work is touched by Islamic banking or finance.

This is a comprehensive material for the islamic finance. This book is focused on the theoretical aspect of the islamic finance. A good material for the readers who desire to acquire the overview of the legal theory of the islamic finance laws. I am satisfied with this book.

Funtastic book. Very well explained .but I think few topics in the beginning is repeated again and again like gharar, riba, etc....

This was the book that was required reading for my module in Islamic finance at university. This book can be quite wordy and can be quite complex to understand. So I started by buying Islamic Finance in a Nutshell which will give you the basics, then this book is a lot easier to understand afterwards, which helped me get a 1st.
