My 8 year old daughter saw this cart at a local shop where it was used in a child's play area. She fell in love with it and wanted one to go along with her toy cash register. So when we got home I looked on Amazon and was surprised at the price of the cart. I was thinking it would be a $30 or less item. So I searched all around and couldn't find a better price than the one offered here at Amazon. I thought about it for weeks before ordering. There were many other carts out there for less money but none of them got the glowing reviews that this little cart got. I finally bit the bullet and purchased the cart and I am so glad I did. My daughter plays with it every single day. She and her friends go "shopping" and fill the cart with items from our pantry. Then she rings them up at her cash register and bags them up and brings them "home" so she can put them away. It's a wonderful teaching tool as one day she will be a wife and mother and will have to do these things for real! She and her friends get so much enjoyment out of this toy that I am sorry I didn't get it sooner and all of the play time has made it well worth the money I paid. It's simple to put together, very sturdy, won't tip due to thoughtful construction on Melissa and Doug's part and it will be a toy that my daughter can some day pass along to her daughter. I think it will last forever as it's made from real metal that is very thick and strong. It seems like my daughter is going to be too tall for it maybe within the next year or two, but I honestly don't think that will stop her from using it! I wish they sold a taller version or could turn the handle into an adjustable height handle. That would be the perfect solution so that taller kids could use it. My daughter loves to put her doll or purse in the little seat up front as well. It's a great toy that gets and A++ review from this buyer!

There are many toys that can make a child feel like he or she is in the grocery store imitating mom or dad, but most of them are meant for mild play at home and don't last for very long. Even though some stores use carts with plastic baskets, most still use carts with wire baskets and metal tube frame. The Melissa & Doug Shopping cart reminds me of the ones used in nearly every store that provides carts for customers to use.The Melissa & Doug grocery-style shopping cart is so very realistic, we just adore it for our child. The Melissa & Doug Shopping Cart is made of a large gauge wire basket and very similar tubular frame, it has the typical fold out child seat with plastic bottom shield for a child's baby, and the plastic cover over the handle looks just like the ones at stores we frequent.This cart also has two other features not found on typical carts: anti-tipping riggers and spring-loaded front wheels. Since the cart is smaller it has a narrower wheel base. This cart has anti-tipping riggers with rubber feet to help prevent the the cart from tipping which might result with a hurt child or damaged walls or flooring. The spring-loaded front wheels are a nice 'surprise' feature, too. These springs keep the cart from having such a rigid feel to it. It's too small for my children to get into (by design, I think), but when the kids lean over the end of the cart to get something out (like mom and dad do at the store) the springs allow the cart to lower which prevents the basket from pressing too hard on little ribs and tummies. This feature was an unexpected bonus we never would have missed, but really appreciate.We like the durability and the realistic appearance, but what makes this toy even better is that the cart SOUNDS like the mom and dad's cart at the store. Plus, this 'toy' is actually very functional and useful. We also bought Melissa & Doug Wooden Pantry Products for playing at home, but this doesn't stop us from taking our little cart on real shopping trips.We take this cart with us to the store for our little one to shop along side us when we visit the store and use shopping time as a way to teach our child how to be responsible at the store. Our child gets to carry some of the groceries or other items as we peruse and learns how to respect other shoppers at the store and how to handle a babydoll. Another lesson we try to teach is that everything she puts in her basket has to be purchased; we don't purchase what we can't afford. I believe this teaches confidence in doing the things she will one day need to do to provide and follow a budget.If this were any other type of toy cart, we wouldn't feel comfortable bringing it to the store. Other than it's small size, this cart looks like it belongs in the store. What we have found from this one 'toy' purchase is that we are getting so much more from this than we could have imagined. I believe all of our discovery about how this basket can be sued is attributed to its appearance, feel, and strong construction.As you could probably tell, we recommend this product if you are looking for something like this for your child.

LOVE this little cart!! It’s adorable, made well, sturdy, wheels go 360 degrees so easy to turn, push backward & forward. Like the real thing!. I personally think it’s a bit expensive but am glad I purchased it. My great granddaughter loves pushing it around the house with her doll in the seat and loading up the basket. (Age 2). Perfect size (height and length). YES…… I do plan on loading it up in the car and taking her to the grocery store at least once. Lol 😆 Every store that has carts should have a couple of these smaller ones, with PROPER PARENTING. Recommend. Melissa & Doug is a great brand.

So seriously, this is one of THE best finds! I actually did a lot of research for a play cart for Christmas last year and settled on the Step 2 one (green and white) because it said it was pretty stable. I have twin 3 year olds and an 18 month old (and at Christmas, a beginning walker at 12 mos), so I wanted something that would not tip easily, had room to hold "groceries" and a "baby". Well, I was actually pleased with teh Step 2 one and it is fairly sturdy...but soon, the girls all began to fight over it (their favorite imaginative play game is "shopping"...go figure with three girls). SO, I began looking at buying another cart. I usually buy the same exact thing to create less fighting, but this time when I searched carts I saw this one online. SOMEHOW, I had missed this cart last Christmas, even after hours of toy research. Nonetheless, I bought it on a whim knowing how please I have been with this brand in the past and I am OVERLY HAPPY with this purchase. It is SOOOO stable that I believe a beginner walker could use this without it tipping. The front wheels RULE as they turn 360 degrees so it is very easy to turn in any direction or back up (which is why you wouldn't be able to use it AS a walker...moves to easily and quickly). Also, I put this together myself in under five minutes. The baby seat part closes and opens so it just looks like a real cart. Of course, now my girls fight over this one so it looks like I will be buying a third cart after all.NOTE: one thing you MIGHT want to consider when buying this: It is very durable and of good quality which is good and bad. Let's put it this way...I have three dings in my stainless steel appliances from this cart...so we have a rule that it can't be used in the kitchen. If you are anal retentive about things being perfect (how one can be with kids, I am not sure--but, I am just saying), this might not be the right one for you.Honestly, I LOVE LOVE LOVE this cart!!!

I bought this for my 1 year old and they absolutely love it! We use this as a walker and it’s helped my little one get confident walking! It’s easier to turn so we play chase all over the house!It’s very sturdy and well made and doesn’t tip easily, yet still light and portable! We take it to the grocery store and it fits inside the shopping cart when he gets tired of walking with it. It’s so realistic and great for Montessori play!It’s made from metal just like real grocery carts. And has a “child” seat that’s perfect for his stuffed animals or snacks! It was so easy to assemble out of the box and had no missing parts. I just wish we had bought it sooner! Well worth the money!

I have owned many children’s shopping carts; and this shopping cart is hands-down the absolute best one I have ever purchased! Worth every penny! It is made of metal! Extremely durable!!! Extremely easy to put together (it’s literally four bolts)! I’m stuffing it full of my grand daughter’s gifts and wrapping as one unit!!! I wish it had a metal screen on the bottom like a real shopping cart to put more items, but nonetheless, this shopping cart is absolutely perfect!!! Excellent quality!!! I am very impressed!

This Melissa and Doug shopping cart has got to be one of the sturdiest and cutest toys out there! My one year old loves to push it around and unload and load it. What a great gift!! There are stoppers on the bottom so no big kids can climb in and push it....potentially saving you a broken arm. A dolly fits perfectly in the basket and it will be a toy your kids will use for years to come. Your toddler can have fun pushing it around your house (just watch your toes!) and as they get older they can be like mom and dad and go grocery shopping. Little girls love it for playing dolls and kitchen, and little boys love it because it has wheels on it. This is definitely what the old toys used to be like-sturdy and well made. I am sure it would be a great gift from one year old until 7 years. It goes well with the Melissa and Doug wooden food sets. Melissa and Doug toys are an excellent choice if you want your toys to last forever. Mine was an open box deal and so it had a good discount on it, but I still would have paid full price. It also works great for cleaning up your house. Pick up all of your kids’ toys and put them in the basket and steer it into their playroom. One trip and your house is clean! As you can probably tell, I highly recommend this item for all your kids.
