No they aren’t weighted, but they do have a good solid feel to them and natural weight. They aren’t like plywood light! They are perfect weight!

What is the size of board squares, and are pieces plastic?

The size of the board squares is 2" and the pieces are made of wood.

How does this 17x17 chessboard close? Is there a latch or lock to keep it closed when folded? The 15min model seems to have that based on the pics.

The chess pieces hook to the underside of the board with elastic and the board folds in half to close. No latch to lock closed.
