READ for size differences between three kinds
I bought all three kinds of this adapter (American Standard, Price Pfister, and Gerber) in hopes it would be able to help me put a different shower head on my shower in my apartment. While none of them worked (I need a new mystery sized adapter) No where could I find the actual dimensions of the three brands, so I wanted to provide pictures of the differences and the size if you can't find the name of the shower head on your shower. In the above pictures I measured the with from the outside thread to the outside thread as consistently as I could. Gerber is the largest by a good measure, then price pfister is slightly larger than american standard. Another difference between the latter two is american standard has fewer threads that are larger and more spread apart. Price Pfister's are smaller and closer together.Pictured above (Gerber 2nd picture, Price Pfister 1st, American Standard 3rd)Gerber: 1 1/2 inches (outside thread to outside thread)Price Pfister: 1 1/8 inches (outside thread to outside thread)American Standard: 1 1/16 inches (outside thread to outside thread)Hope this helps

It works!
This was a godsend. I don't understand the person who gave this a low review because it did not fit their equipment - so it was the wrong thing. For me, this was the right thing and it saved me having to get a plumber to cut out my old fitting and put in a new fitting. It attached simply and easily with no drips from the connections. It is a good thing. So if you look at this picture close up and you have an old ball thing coming out of your wall and you want to connect to a modern new shower head, this is your thing.

This thing fit like a glove
The damn thing worked. I needed a half to a quarter inch adapter for an American Standard ball head. I have gone through 4 of these from Amazon. Four I am trying to return, and still waiting to see how it goes. The first one said it would work with all brands. That turned out to be incorrect. As I went through this it is now clear that the threads are different if it is a Price Fister vs a Gerber vs an American Standard 1/2 inch ball head. There can be no universal adapter. The second one I bought had three adapters in it. All failed. I was able to return those with no problems. This thing fit like a glove. So happy. I do not need to replace the shower arm which is much more work.

This adapter saved me from a serious plumbing bill.
I was lucky that the 30-year-old (leaking) shower head had "American Standard" on it. The plumbers all wanted me to replace the arm or cut the wall to access the joint. This adapter saved my bacon. See the pictures.

Perfect Fit
This worked perfectly. Bought an older home and this was just what I needed to be able to use the new shower heads.
