Neat retrofit alternative (vs. "wings" design)
Compared to a wing-type retrofit box... WING Pros: easy to place (anywhere, no stud needed), easy to install (cut hole, insert into wall, turn screws to open and clamp wings against wall). Slightly cheaper/wide availability. Cons: flimsy, can feel attached items flex; depending on stud spacing and wall quality, may flex (or if you're clumsy) crack a wall area. Have to be careful with steps like breaking open stubborn new wire tabs or torquing down objects to the box to avoid damaging weak wall. THIS Pros: Sturdy install! As good as -- in fact, probably better than (screws vs nails) -- original build boxes that usually are also attached sideways to a stud. This particular product also has a nice thick frame, box itself is strong. They did a clever job allowing you to access the install screws with as little impact to space as possible. Cons: Harder, or at least less convenient, to place because you need a stud/crossbeam, and have to cut your hole more precisely so the edge of it is on a stud. Harder to level the box if your studs are super-crooked (though most final devices allow leveling adjustments so shouldn't be an issue for most situations). Slightly less interior space than some wing designs. Right/left sides of box may end up uneven since screws can cause opposite side to slightly pull in deeper during tightening, worse if your stud is twisted -- a little extra bracing or plastic nubs at the back edge of the box would help prevent this. OVERALL Unless there's an issue with stud spacing, I plan to use these going forward. These are as sturdy as original build quality and will last no matter what accidents happen around the box, yet easy to install and fine pricing for one-off house projects. I have enough practice with stud finding and hole cutting to get nice holes cut alongside studs -- wing design might be better if you're new to it.

Great box for old work.
Bought this because I had to add a new outlet and accidentally cut the hole in the drywall too big. Because one side of the hole was against a stud, this worked perfectly to secure in the hole where a standard old work box with flanges that didn't have anything to grab onto. I bought the one that was extra deep, plenty of room for three sets of wires coming in. The box itself is very sturdy too. I did take off one star because the tabs in the back are difficult to remove and they leave behind a triangle that can make it hard to feed the wires past. Just a note, I'm a DIY homeowner and I only had needle nose pliers to get the tabs out. So for more experienced folks with better tools it might be easier.

Solid Product
I have used these boxes for years. They are built solidly and intelligently. They are easy to install in new construction or retrofit. They hold NM cables securely, unlike the majority of plastic boxes at the hardware stores. (It is a little difficult to adjust or pull the cables back out if you make a mistake). Some of the slots for installing cables are labelled for #12, and others are labelled for #14. It really helps (is pretty much necessary) to split the plastic tabs apart with a flat blade screwdriver before inserting the cables. I have preferred metal boxes with screw-in cable connectors in the past, but it is almost impossible to buy metal boxes without razor sharp burrs anymore, so I am strongly considering switching over to using these boxes in almost all my jobs. The Amazon price is comparable to the cost of metal boxes, and even if the plastic costs a little more, it is well worth not cutting my fingers, and not having to worry about slicing open the insulation of wires during installation. (I have seen it happen too often). Honestly, I am mystified how any of the metal boxes I have seen lately can get a UL listing. It must be true, as someone who had worked for UL once told me, that getting an approval is mostly just a matter of paying enough.

great mounting box!
perfect for what i needed. the functionality of this design allows you to install the box without cutting a hole in the sheetrock bigger than the box itself. the 45 degree angle mounting screws provided with this are very sharp, and kept the box perfectly in place while mounting it. once mounted, it is strong enough to hang off of it. has several pop open wire entry windows in different locations to customize the installation. nice sturdy box!

Good quality, but not really adjustable.
Okay, I kept looking at the picture, trying to figure out just how these things adjusted on depth. I never could figure it out before I ordered, so I just ordered 6 single gang, and one 3 gang, as it seemed the only thing that would work with my existing construction. Once I got them, I realized that calling them adjustable is like calling a 2x4 board adjustable because you can put the screws anywhere you want. Seriously? I was working through drywall, and quickly found out that if you line it up as close as you can, and then install the screws that it will pull down about a quarter of an inch more and be below the surface. I spent hours trying to figure the sweet spot for all of my boxes. Of course, it only works if the 2x4 is perfectly square. If not, not you will have half of the box sitting outside of the plasterboard. It really did not matter what I did, and I am a very mechanical person. In the end, I just had to accept that some would stick out, and sand or grind that part off. The boxes are well constructed though, and if you do not mind the headache, they do the job, eventually. Now the blue boxes that call themselves adjustable honestly are. You can adjust them in or out once they are secure to the 2x4. Unfortunately, the only ones of those I could find had to be installed before the drywall. They are probably your only choice in certain situations, but shame on the manufacturer for these gray boxes using the term adjustable. They need to spend a little time actually making a box that does adjust.

Great deep box. They install easily on a stud without much effort. They are very sturdy also. Much better than the boxes with cheap plastic tabs.

I bought a couple these not realising they are too deep for 2x3 studs. Fine for 2x4 outside basement walls or 2x6 framing. I can think of a few times in the past involving red twist connectors when these would have been welcome.

Nice deep gang box - with drywall measures on the side for quick installation. fastens to studs well with minimal movement when fastening. deep box means more space for pigtails and smart switches. Helps get those switches and outlets fitting nicely so they dont bend.
