They're advertised for knitting or crochet, but I do machine embroidery. I'm just starting some projects using yarns, beads, braids, cords and other specialty "threads" to embellish some standard embroidery, and these popped up. I think they'll work great for managing several strands at a time. Someone complained that they weren't all the same shade, but that doesn't bother me. I grew up with a craftsman woodworker for a father, and I know that pieces from the same piece of wood often "take" the stain differently. As to comments about smell, if I stick my head all the way into the bowl and breathe deeply, there is a faint odor - it's not offensive, and will likely dissipate now that they're out in the open. The workmanship is beautiful. Also, I don't know how they did it, but I emailed asking about delivery time, as we travel and I needed to make sure they arrived before we left for our next location, and was assured they would be delivered in time. Since the company's address is in India, I expected them to arrive in a few weeks - but somehow, they arrived on the third business day after placing the order!
